Is Tatsuya Kondo Stronger Than Demon Lord Rimuru in Tensura Season 4?

If there is one thing the Tensura fandom can never agree on, it is power scaling.

Every time a new monster, Demon Lord, Saint, or Ultimate Skill enters the story, the same arguments immediately appear: Who would win? Who has the better hax? Can this character actually kill a True Dragon? And, inevitably, where does Rimuru Tempest sit above all of them?

One matchup that deserves more attention is Tatsuya Kondo vs Rimuru Tempest.

Kondo is not some disposable Imperial soldier. He is arguably the most dangerous human combatant serving the Eastern Empire, an Awakened Saint with an Ultimate Skill and an absurdly lethal arsenal. His confrontation with Carrera proves that he can stand against beings who are completely outside the normal human power scale.

But here is my take as someone who has spent way too much time thinking about Tensura’s ridiculous power system:

Kondo is terrifying, but Season 4 Rimuru is operating on an entirely different level.

And that’s not meant to disrespect Kondo. If anything, the fact that he can even be discussed in the same conversation tells you how insane his character is.

So, Is Tatsuya Kondo Stronger Than Rimuru?

No.

At least, not when we’re talking about the Rimuru who has reached the later stages of the Eastern Empire conflict.

Kondo has something Rimuru absolutely cannot afford to underestimate: extremely specialized killing power. His abilities are designed around eliminating powerful opponents efficiently rather than simply overwhelming them with raw energy.

Rimuru, however, has accumulated too many layers of defense, analysis, regeneration, absorption, and reality-bending abilities.

If this were an assassination scenario with Rimuru completely unaware of Kondo, I would actually give Kondo a much more interesting chance.

In a straight fight?

I’m betting on Rimuru every time.

Why Kondo Is Still One of Tensura’s Most Dangerous Humans

Kondo’s biggest advantage is that he doesn’t fight like a traditional powerhouse.

He’s an experienced soldier who combines battlefield discipline with an Ultimate Skill called Sandalphon, Lord of Judgment. Rather than simply throwing enormous attacks around, Kondo specializes in finding the fastest route to an opponent’s death.

That’s what makes him scary.

His arsenal includes several specialized bullets, each designed for a different kind of target or defense.

• Judgment Bullet – Kondo’s most infamous finishing attack and arguably his most dangerous weapon against high-level spiritual beings.
• Necrosis Bullet – Designed to interfere with an opponent’s energy and magic circuits.
• Eraser Bullet – A devastating projectile capable of destroying the target’s physical form.
• Remove Bullet – Used to break through magical defenses and protective abilities.

Then there is the Dominion Bullet, which gives Kondo access to an entirely different type of threat: control.

That’s an important distinction.

Kondo doesn’t need to overpower everyone physically if he can exploit a weakness before the opponent realizes what is happening.

And we’ve already seen that this strategy can work against extremely powerful characters.

The Carrera Fight Is the Biggest Argument for Kondo

If someone tells me Kondo is “just a human,” I’m immediately pointing them toward his fight with Carrera.

That confrontation is one of the clearest demonstrations of why Kondo deserves to be taken seriously in any Tensura power discussion.

Carrera is a Primordial Demon. She’s not an ordinary monster, and she’s certainly not someone a normal human should be able to fight on remotely equal terms.

Yet Kondo managed to push her into an extremely dangerous battle.

That tells us something important:

Kondo’s actual combat effectiveness is dramatically higher than his classification as a human Saint suggests.

This is why I don’t like simplistic Tensura tier lists that put characters into boxes based solely on race or species.

Kondo is a perfect example of why those lists can be misleading.

But Then You Have Rimuru

And this is where the matchup starts becoming unfair.

Rimuru isn’t merely stronger than Kondo in terms of raw power. His entire combat system is designed around adapting to threats.

The biggest problem for Kondo is Raphael/Ciel.

Depending on exactly where you place the timeline and which version of Rimuru you’re discussing, the distinction between Raphael and Ciel matters. But the basic point remains the same: Rimuru has access to an absurdly powerful analytical intelligence capable of processing combat information at speeds that normal fighters simply cannot match.

And honestly, this is the part of the matchup that makes me lean heavily toward Rimuru.

Kondo wants to create a situation where one perfect attack ends the fight.

Rimuru’s entire kit is practically built to prevent exactly that.

Kondo’s Biggest Problem: He Can’t Reliably Surprise Rimuru

Imagine Kondo preparing the perfect shot.

He identifies Rimuru’s position.

He calculates the attack.

He fires.

Against most opponents, that’s nightmare fuel.

Against Rimuru?

That’s where Ciel enters the conversation.

Rimuru’s analytical abilities can evaluate enemy attacks, identify their properties, calculate potential outcomes, and adjust his response accordingly.

This creates a fundamental matchup problem for Kondo.

His greatest weapon is precision.

Rimuru’s greatest advantage is adaptation.

That’s a terrible combination for Kondo.

Even if Kondo has an attack capable of threatening Rimuru, he still needs to successfully land it under combat conditions. Having a theoretical win condition and actually executing that win condition against Rimuru are two completely different things.

What About the Judgment Bullet?

This is probably the most interesting part of the entire debate.

Could Kondo’s Judgment Bullet actually hurt Rimuru?

I wouldn’t dismiss that possibility.

Kondo has demonstrated that his attacks can threaten entities far beyond normal humans. So saying “Rimuru is a Demon Lord, therefore Kondo’s bullets do nothing” is lazy power scaling.

Tensura doesn’t work that simply.

The more important question is whether Kondo can land the attack and whether Rimuru has a counter available once its properties are understood.

And that’s where Rimuru has the advantage.

His defensive abilities, absorption, barriers, regeneration, and spatial abilities give him multiple potential answers to an attack that would be an instant disaster for most other characters.

Rimuru doesn’t need to be completely immune to Kondo.

He only needs enough defensive layers to survive the first serious attack and give Ciel time to understand it.

After that, the matchup becomes progressively worse for Kondo.

Rimuru’s Advantage Isn’t Just Raw Power

Here’s where I think a lot of anime-only discussions get the matchup wrong.

If we’re comparing these characters purely by physical strength, we’re missing the point.

Rimuru’s real advantage is the combination of multiple systems working together.

And that’s why I think Rimuru wins.

Kondo has a specialized toolkit.

Rimuru has an entire toolbox factory.

The One Scenario Where Kondo Gets Really Interesting

There is, however, one scenario where I wouldn’t laugh at the idea of Kondo winning.

Give Kondo:

• complete information about Rimuru,
• a prepared battlefield,
• the element of surprise,
• no warning for Rimuru,
• and the opportunity to fire his strongest attack immediately.

Now we have a genuine assassination scenario.

Kondo isn’t stupid enough to fight Rimuru by standing ten meters away and announcing his strongest attack.

He’s a soldier.

He would look for the shortest possible path to victory.

That’s why I think Kondo remains one of the few human characters who can make a theoretically dangerous assassination attempt against an enormously powerful opponent.

But that’s still different from being stronger than Rimuru.

Rimuru vs Kondo: My Final Verdict

For me, this isn’t really a debate about whether Kondo is powerful enough.

He absolutely is.

Kondo is one of the most impressive human combatants in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and his fight against Carrera is enough evidence that dismissing him would be a huge mistake.

But Rimuru’s evolution throughout the story eventually pushes him into a category where specialized human combat abilities aren’t enough by themselves.

The deciding factors are:

1. Ciel’s overwhelming analytical advantage.
2. Rimuru’s enormous collection of defensive abilities.
3. His regeneration and survivability.
4. His vastly broader selection of offensive and defensive options.
5. His ability to adapt after encountering an unfamiliar ability.

Kondo might have the bullet that can kill something far stronger than himself.

The problem is getting that bullet through Rimuru’s entire defensive system.

And that’s exactly why, when I picture the actual fight, I can’t realistically see Kondo winning consistently.

My personal ranking

If I had to put money on it:

Rimuru wins – decisively in a standard battle.

Kondo’s chances become much more interesting in an ambush or assassination scenario, but that’s not the same as proving that he’s stronger.

And honestly, that’s what makes Kondo such a great character.

He doesn’t need to be stronger than Rimuru to be terrifying.

He’s terrifying because he’s human and still managed to reach a level where monsters and Demon Lords have to take him seriously.

That’s one of the things I love about Tensura’s power system. Sometimes the most dangerous character in the room isn’t the one with the biggest magicule reserve. It’s the guy who already knows exactly where to put the bullet.

But against late-stage Rimuru?

I’d still bet on the slime.
