The Ura Files Chapter 3: Official Release Date, Chapter 2 Absolute True Summary, and Deep-Dive Fan Predictions
I honestly didn’t expect The Ura Files to hook me this quickly.
The manga, originally published under the title Ura no Report (ウラのレポート), has that rare kind of comedy where the joke isn’t just a funny line or exaggerated facial expression. The entire situation is the joke. Momotaro Kibitsu is supposed to be a trained teenage agent working for the Anti-Monster Bureau, yet somehow his biggest problem isn’t fighting monsters. It’s talking to one girl at school without completely destroying his dignity.
Written by Shun Numa and illustrated by Yushin Kuroki, the series mixes supernatural action, school comedy, romance awkwardness and folklore-inspired characters in a way that feels surprisingly fresh.
And Chapter 2 might be the best example of that formula so far.
After reading the whole chapter, I was laughing at Momotaro one minute and genuinely feeling bad for him the next. The guy has secret-agent equipment, intelligence reports and apparently enough athletic ability to swing from a third-floor window. Yet saying “good morning” to Ura is apparently the most dangerous mission of his career.
So, with The Ura Files Chapter 3 approaching, here’s my breakdown of what actually happened in Chapter 2 and what I think could happen next.
When Is The Ura Files Chapter 3 Coming Out?
Based on the current weekly publication schedule, The Ura Files Chapter 3 is expected to release on Sunday, September 13, 2026, assuming there isn’t an unexpected Weekly Shonen Jump break.

Chapter 2 Was Basically Momotaro’s Worst Day Ever
Chapter 2 begins before school, and this is already important because Momotaro is treating his situation like an actual military operation.
He’s sitting in his room late at night, going through information about Ura and trying to figure out how he can get some private time with her. His biggest concern isn’t even the mission itself anymore. He’s still trying to repair the disaster caused by his accidental “confession” in Chapter 1.
His solution?
Study Ura’s routine.
Honestly, this is where the series gets me. Momotaro’s brain works like a professional spy’s right up until normal teenage emotions enter the equation. Then everything falls apart.
Even his commander doesn’t sound like a strict military superior. She basically tells him to go to bed because staying up late is unhealthy. Momotaro responds by snapping at her like she’s his mom.
That running gag is fantastic.
The Morning Stakeout Goes Horribly Wrong
Momotaro’s first real plan is simple: wait outside Ura’s house and catch her before school.
On paper, that’s not terrible.
In practice, Ura comes outside with her friends.
And then a blonde male classmate joins them.
So Momotaro’s carefully planned private conversation immediately becomes a group walk where he’s basically an invisible extra in the background.
Ura doesn’t even understand why he showed up at her house because it’s nowhere near his normal route to school. That makes his excuse even harder to explain.
Meanwhile, the blonde guy starts flirting with Ura, only for her to completely forget the previous occasion when they supposedly went out to eat.
That entire scene tells us something important about Ura. She isn’t secretly playing everyone. She’s genuinely just… Ura.
She’s surprisingly innocent when it comes to romance.
Momotaro Accidentally Becomes the Creepy Guy
Things get even worse at school.
Momotaro sees Ura in the hallway and tries to convince himself to act normally. He gives himself a motivational speech, prepares to approach her and then—
PANIC.
Instead of casually saying hello, he throws himself backward against the lockers and screams.
Then he tries to recover by delivering the stiffest “GOOD MORNING, ONIGASHIMA!” imaginable.
I genuinely had to laugh at this part.
The funniest thing about Momotaro is that he’s not socially incompetent because he doesn’t care. It’s the opposite. He cares way too much.
Every interaction becomes a tactical scenario in his head. Every facial expression feels like a potential mission failure.
Naturally, Ura’s friend thinks he’s scary.
Mission accomplished, I guess.
The Futon Scene Might Be My Favorite Gag
After embarrassing himself, Momotaro retreats home and literally hides underneath his futon.
He’s done.
School is over for him.
His commander, meanwhile, has absolutely no sympathy. She bluntly tells him that Ura is probably avoiding him and basically implies that he’s too pathetic to make fun of.
That’s such a good dynamic because the Anti-Monster Bureau sounds increasingly like an office where everyone has accepted that their elite agent is a complete disaster around girls.
The “Cold Shoulder” Strategy Is Even Worse
Momotaro eventually returns to school and decides that the answer is to ignore Ura.
His reasoning is hilarious.
He thinks acting distant will make him look experienced and emotionally detached.
Ura cheerfully tries to greet him.
He ignores her.
For approximately five seconds, Momotaro thinks this is working.
It isn’t.
The real obstacle is Ura’s group of friends. In Momotaro’s mind, they’re basically a heavily fortified military installation.
And then he gets completely lost listening to them discuss makeup and personal color analysis.
This is another thing I really enjoy about The Ura Files. The manga constantly contrasts Momotaro’s absurd spy mentality with completely ordinary high school life.
The Jumbo Hot Dog Changes Everything
Then comes the chapter’s biggest opportunity.
Momotaro remembers something from his intelligence records: Ura runs to the school store every Wednesday to buy a giant jumbo hot dog.
And she never loses.
This is apparently serious business.
Because Ura is an oni, her speed is ridiculous. She leaves the other students behind and reaches the store before most of them even have a chance.
Momotaro realizes something important: this routine gives him the perfect opportunity to catch Ura alone.
There is just one problem.
His solution is completely insane.
Momotaro Jumps Out of a Third-Floor Window
Momotaro uses a grappling hook, swings outside the school building and drops toward a lower window.
I know this is supposed to be funny, but I also couldn’t stop thinking:
This guy could simply have waited for her somewhere.
Instead, he performs what looks like a professional infiltration operation just to talk to his classmate.
He lands with the spectacular “ZUZAZA” slide, skidding across the floor directly in front of Ura.
It is ridiculous.
It is also probably the single funniest visual gag in the chapter.
And finally, Momotaro asks the question he’s been trying to ask all day:
Why have you been avoiding me?
The Big Chapter 2 Revelation
This is where the chapter gets unexpectedly sweet.
Ura isn’t avoiding Momotaro because she dislikes him.
She thought he actually confessed his feelings.
That’s the entire misunderstanding.
From Momotaro’s perspective, Chapter 1 was an awkward conversation that he desperately needed to explain. From Ura’s perspective, however, this strange boy basically confessed to her and then started acting incredibly weird afterward.
No wonder she didn’t know how to respond.
Then comes the bigger revelation:
Ura has almost no romantic experience herself.
Momotaro had assumed she was comfortable around guys because she’s friendly, energetic and surrounded by people.
She’s not.
She is just as inexperienced as he is.
That changes their relationship completely.
What I Think Chapter 3 Will Do
The ending gives Chapter 3 a very obvious starting point.
Ura completely forgot to buy her jumbo hot dog because she became so absorbed in the conversation with Momotaro.
The entire purpose of her lunchtime sprint was forgotten.
That’s hilarious, but I think it could also lead to the first genuinely normal interaction between the two.
1. Momotaro Helps Her Find Something to Eat
My biggest prediction is that Momotaro will feel responsible for Ura missing lunch.
He caused the conversation that distracted her, after all.
I could easily see him offering part of his lunch or suggesting another place where they can grab food. More importantly, it would give them another chance to talk without the misunderstanding hanging over them.
A rooftop, courtyard or quiet corner of the school would fit perfectly.
2. Ura’s Friends Will Get Involved
Now that Ura knows Momotaro isn’t actually confessing his love to her, I expect her friends to become much more interested in him.
And that could be absolute chaos.
Imagine Momotaro, trained to deal with supernatural threats, being interrogated by a group of high school girls about his relationship with Ura.
He would probably rather fight an oni.
3. The Boss Is Going to Roast Him
There is no way the Bureau commander lets the grappling-hook stunt slide.
Momotaro will probably report that he successfully obtained information from Ura, conveniently leaving out the part where he launched himself from a third-floor window because he couldn’t walk up to her normally.
If the series continues using the “SOUND ONLY” communication gag, I expect another brutal exchange between Momotaro and his commander.

Why I’m Looking Forward to Chapter 3
What makes The Ura Files work for me isn’t simply the supernatural premise.
It’s Momotaro and Ura.
They’re both hiding behind completely different misunderstandings, and neither of them is particularly good at dealing with normal teenage relationships. Momotaro thinks like an agent. Ura thinks like someone who is genuinely trying to be nice and understand what’s happening.
Put them together and every ordinary situation turns into a disaster.
Chapter 2 also did something I didn’t expect: it made the relationship feel less like a one-sided crush and more like two awkward people slowly figuring each other out.
The fact that both characters have essentially zero romantic experience is a great foundation for future comedy. Momotaro doesn’t need to become smooth overnight, and Ura doesn’t need to suddenly become a romance expert. Their lack of experience is the joke.
And honestly, I hope the manga doesn’t rush that.
Give me more failed conversations. More absurd spy tactics. More Ura accidentally misunderstanding everything. More moments where Momotaro has the equipment to infiltrate a monster fortress but can’t survive a conversation with one cheerful girl.
That’s where The Ura Files is at its best.
For now, the expected The Ura Files Chapter 3 release date is September 13, 2026, and after that ending, I’m definitely going to be checking for the new chapter as soon as it drops.
