At first glance, Arc looks like the last person you would expect to be the hero of an isekai story. He is a gigantic armored knight with a skull for a face, glowing eyes, and an appearance that would normally make people reach for a sword rather than offer him a friendly handshake.

In other words, the intimidating skeleton isn’t hiding some ordinary-looking guy.

He’s hiding an absurdly handsome fantasy warrior.

And, as someone who enjoys anime characters with ridiculous visual contrasts, I think that’s a fantastic twist.

The contrast is almost funny.

Everyone around Arc sees an enormous skeleton in knight’s armor, while underneath that frightening exterior is a character who could easily have walked straight out of a traditional fantasy romance anime.

Why Doesn’t Arc Stay Human?

Arc’s restoration isn’t a simple case of “magic removed the curse, so everything is fixed.” His existence in the new world is tied to the unusual circumstances surrounding his transportation and his avatar-like body.

The cleansing effect can temporarily reveal what is underneath the skeletal state, but the change doesn’t become a permanent transformation.

Arc eventually returns to his familiar skeletal appearance.

For me, this actually makes the reveal more interesting rather than less.

If Arc simply became a normal-looking elf permanently, one of the defining ideas of Skeleton Knight in Another World would disappear. His entire adventure is built around the contrast between how he looks and who he actually is.

He looks like something that should be feared.

He acts like a genuinely decent person.

That contradiction is the heart of the character.

Arc and Ariane: The Reveal Has Another Meaning

Arc’s relationship with Ariane Glenys Maple adds another layer to his unusual appearance.

Ariane is a dark elf herself, and her relationship with Arc develops from initial suspicion into genuine trust and affection. She doesn’t judge him solely because of his skeletal appearance. Instead, she gradually learns what kind of person he really is.

That’s important because Arc’s face isn’t what ultimately determines his place among his companions.

Ariane doesn’t need him to look human.

His friends don’t need him to stop being a skeleton.

They care about the person behind the armor.

And I think that’s much more satisfying than a standard “secret handsome protagonist” reveal.

Both characters are immensely powerful skeletal-looking figures who become central players in another world. However, their personalities and stories are very different.

That’s why I personally don’t think Arc feels like an Ainz copy.

His skeleton design might immediately remind viewers of Overlord, but his personality is almost the opposite. Arc is often surprisingly goofy, enthusiastic, and compassionate.

He can look terrifying while behaving like the nicest guy in the room.

The skeletal appearance is important because it creates the premise of the story. His armor is important because it allows him to interact with the world. His temporary physical restoration is important because it shows us that there is more to his avatar than the bones suggest.

But none of those things define Arc as a person.

Whether he’s walking around as a mysterious armored knight, accidentally terrifying ordinary villagers with his skull, or briefly revealing a handsome elven appearance, Arc is still Arc.

That’s what makes the character work.

Final Thoughts: The Skeleton Is Part of the Charm

I have to admit, I think Skeleton Knight in Another World would lose some of its personality if Arc permanently switched to a handsome elf form.

The visual contrast is simply too good.

You have this enormous knight who looks like he belongs in a dark fantasy horror series, and then he starts behaving like an enthusiastic, kind-hearted adventurer who genuinely wants to help people.

That’s Arc’s biggest appeal.

His face is unusual, but his character is surprisingly human.

So, if you’re wondering what lies beneath Arc Lalatoya’s armor, the answer is far more interesting than simply “another skeleton.” The story reveals a much more conventional and striking fantasy appearance — dark skin, black hair, pointed elven ears, reddish eyes, and a powerful build.

Yet the irony is that his most recognizable face will probably always be the skull.

And honestly?

I wouldn’t have it any other way.
