Backbone reveals that her parents have already been dead for a long time. Rather than becoming frightened, she laughs at Lily for thinking he had discovered some secret weakness.
That scene perfectly captures Backbone’s personality. She isn’t simply brave. She’s unpredictable enough that conventional intimidation barely works on her.
Lily completely loses control.
And while he’s busy screaming, Backbone reveals that she was never as helpless as she appeared.
She had a knife hidden in her sleeve.
Of course she did.
Backbone’s Real Plan
The biggest revelation of Chapter 67 is that Backbone was buying time.
While Lily was focused on her, Haruo managed to escape with Sugar and Honey-Bee. They reached Seiran’s spacecraft, which then launched from the lunar surface.
Backbone watches the ship disappear and realizes that the plan worked.
This is where the chapter becomes much darker.
She had deliberately manipulated Lily into staying at the location long enough for the others to escape. She wasn’t expecting everyone to walk away together.
She knew someone might have to remain behind.
And that someone was her.
Backbone then drops another bombshell: she had already contacted Immigration and reported Lily as a dangerous extraterrestrial carrying an unknown biological threat.
That means Lily’s situation was already hopeless.

I suspect Chapter 68 will spend considerably more time on this emotional fallout.
What Could Happen in Drama Queen Chapter 68?
I see two major possibilities for the next chapter.
1. Backbone Gets Taken Into Custody
The obvious continuation is the arrival of Lunar Immigration.
Backbone has effectively turned herself into a witness, a suspect, and potentially a valuable source of information all at once.
She is standing next to a dead alien and an arrested smuggler, so there is absolutely no way authorities are simply going to let her walk away.
But this is Backbone we’re talking about.
I wouldn’t be surprised if she somehow turns the interrogation to her advantage.
Her willingness to call herself a “twisted person” makes me think she could actually enjoy playing psychological games with the authorities.
A Backbone interrogation scene could be incredible.
It would also give the manga an opportunity to slow down after the chaos of Chapter 67.
2. Seiran and Haruo Deal With the Consequences
The second possibility might be even more important.
Seiran knows they left Backbone behind.
Haruo knows it too.
Even though Backbone created the situation herself, that doesn’t make abandoning her emotionally easy.
Haruo’s injuries could also become important. He’s survived the immediate danger, but his physical condition suggests that the next chapter won’t simply reset everyone to normal.
I especially want to see how Seiran behaves around Haruo.
Does he try to justify the decision?
Does Haruo blame him?
Or do they both simply stay silent?
That kind of quiet character drama would fit Drama Queen extremely well.

And there’s another question I can’t stop thinking about.
Was Backbone actually sacrificing herself, or did she already have another plan?
Because with this manga, I never completely trust an apparently final situation.
Backbone is exactly the kind of character who could be surrounded by authorities in one panel and somehow manipulating the entire facility twenty pages later.
So while Chapter 67 makes it look like she has been abandoned, I’m not convinced we’ve seen the last of her.

Drama Queen Chapter 68 has a lot to live up to, but I actually think the series is in a stronger position because of Chapter 67.
Lily’s death was brutal, but it wasn’t the real ending.
The real story now is about what the survivors do with the consequences.
Haruo is injured. Seiran feels guilty. Sugar and Honey-Bee are traumatized. Backbone is alone on the Moon. Noma remains isolated in the facility.
Everyone has been separated.
And that makes the next chapter extremely unpredictable.
Personally, I’m hoping Ichikawa doesn’t rush back into another action sequence. Give us the awkward silence aboard Seiran’s ship. Give us Backbone dealing with Immigration. Let the characters actually process what happened.
Because the most interesting thing about Drama Queen right now isn’t who wins the next fight. It’s whether these characters can live with the choices they just made.
And knowing this manga, I’m expecting the answer to be a very uncomfortable one.
