Ichi the Witch Chapter 99 Predictions & Chapter 98 Full Ending Breakdown: The Birth of a New Witch
Ichi the Witch Chapter 98 might be one of the strangest and most entertaining chapters the series has delivered lately. What initially looked like a simple rescue mission quickly turned into a surprisingly emotional character moment for Kumugi, followed by one of the most ridiculous power-ups imaginable.
And honestly, that combination is exactly why I love Ichi the Witch. One moment the manga is dealing with friendship, trust, and the pressure of living up to someone’s expectations. The next, a character is being given a completely absurd magical weapon that looks like a walking artillery platform.
Chapter 98, titled “98th Hunt: Entrusted to Me,” shifts attention away from Ichi and focuses on Kumugi, Gokuraku, Amadoro, and Boxster as they continue their mission inside the enormous moving mechanical castle. Kumugi’s confidence, Gokuraku’s loyalty, and Amadoro’s bizarre sense of humor all come together before the chapter ends on a genuinely wild cliffhanger.
So, what exactly happened in Chapter 98, and what could happen next in Ichi the Witch Chapter 99? Here are my biggest takeaways and predictions.
Chapter 98 Was Really Kumugi’s Character Chapter
The most important part of Chapter 98 isn’t actually the giant weapon that appears at the end. For me, it’s Kumugi finally showing that she isn’t simply following Ichi because she has been ordered to.
She genuinely wants to prove that Ichi made the right decision by trusting her.
That distinction matters. Kumugi has always felt more like a researcher and support character compared with the more aggressive fighters around her. She isn’t someone who naturally charges into danger. That’s why Boxster’s attempts to protect her make complete sense.
But Kumugi doesn’t want to remain the person everyone has to protect forever.
When she explains how seriously she takes Ichi’s trust, Gokuraku immediately understands what she means. His explanation of Ichi’s personality is probably my favorite emotional moment in the chapter. Ichi has this strange ability to trust people completely once he accepts them as friends, and that trust makes other characters want to become worthy of it.
It is a simple idea, but the manga makes it work surprisingly well.
Amadoro’s Question Creates One of the Funniest Moments
Of course, Ichi the Witch can’t stay serious for too long.
When Kumugi starts talking passionately about Ichi, Amadoro completely misreads the situation and basically asks whether the two of them are engaged. Kumugi’s immediate panic is hilarious.
She desperately explains that she and Ichi are not romantically involved, while Amadoro continues trying to figure out what their relationship actually is. The brief reference to Ichi wanting to become part of his master’s family makes the entire exchange even funnier.
It’s classic Ichi the Witch comedy: a genuinely emotional conversation gets derailed by the most socially awkward question possible.
Gokuraku Finally Shows Why He Shouldn’t Be Underestimated
Gokuraku also gets an excellent moment in this chapter.
He explains that having no arms isn’t simply a disadvantage. Instead, he has redirected the strength that would normally be distributed throughout his body into his legs. That makes his fighting style considerably more dangerous than it initially appears.
But what makes the scene work isn’t the physical explanation. It’s what Gokuraku says afterward.
He is willing to sacrifice even more of himself to protect Kumugi because he doesn’t want to betray Ichi’s trust.
That is the real reason Amadoro finally accepts their decision. He sees that Kumugi isn’t recklessly trying to become a fighter. She is surrounded by people who genuinely believe in her, and she is finally ready to accept that responsibility.
Then Amadoro Does Something Completely Insane
Just when the chapter feels like it has reached its emotional conclusion, Amadoro pulls out something mysterious and tells Kumugi to taste it.
Yes. Really.
After all the serious discussion about trust, responsibility, and protecting one another, the chapter suddenly turns into one of the weirdest magical naming ceremonies I’ve seen in this manga.
Kumugi consumes Amadoro’s magical essence, and he gives her a new name:
Kumugi Ribboncandy Harvest.
And apparently, that isn’t just a ridiculous nickname.
The moment her new name is established, Kumugi’s hidden potential manifests in spectacular fashion.
Kumugi’s New Form Is Basically a Magical Battleship
The final double-page spread is easily the biggest visual surprise of the chapter.
Behind Kumugi appears a gigantic magical framework resembling an extravagant dress, except the decorative elements have been replaced with an absolutely ridiculous amount of weaponry. Gun barrels, ammunition belts, rotating mechanisms, and heavy artillery surround her body.
It’s difficult to look at the design and not think that Kumugi has somehow transformed from a timid support character into a walking weapons platform.
And that’s exactly why I think Chapter 99 is going to be so much fun.
Her new ability seems perfectly suited to the way Kumugi already fights. She specializes in controlling multiple summons and gathering information, so transforming that concept into an enormous long-range combat system actually makes more sense than it initially sounds.
| Character | Likely Role | Potential Chapter 99 Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Kumugi | Long-range support / artillery | Testing Ribboncandy Harvest |
| Gokuraku | Close-range attacker | High-powered leg combat |
| Boxster | Defender / protector | Reaction to Kumugi’s transformation |
| Amadoro | Magical mentor | Explaining the naming technique |
My Biggest Ichi the Witch Chapter 99 Predictions
If I had to bet on what happens next, I think Chapter 99 will immediately show us what Kumugi’s new power can actually do.
- Kumugi will test her new artillery form. The manga has teased an enormous amount of firepower, so I can’t imagine the series waiting long before showing it in action.
- Boxster is going to completely lose his mind. Watching him try to protect Kumugi only to discover that she now has enough firepower to level the battlefield could be one of the funniest running jokes in the next chapter.
- Amadoro will explain the naming ability. There has to be some kind of limitation or rule behind this transformation. I don’t think the series would simply give Kumugi a permanent power-up without consequences.
- Gokuraku and Kumugi could become an extremely effective combat duo. Kumugi can provide overwhelming ranged pressure while Gokuraku handles anything that gets close.
Is Kumugi’s New Power Permanent?
This is the question I’m most interested in.
The chapter strongly suggests that Amadoro didn’t simply hand Kumugi a random weapon. There appears to be a connection between his magical essence, the naming process, and Kumugi’s own abilities.
That opens up several possibilities.
Maybe Ribboncandy Harvest is temporary. Maybe Kumugi can only maintain it while she has enough magical energy. Or perhaps the new name permanently changes how her magic functions.
Personally, I hope there is a real drawback.
A gigantic magical artillery system is incredibly cool, but Ichi the Witch is at its best when powerful abilities come with unusual rules or limitations. Giving Kumugi a huge upgrade while forcing her to learn how to control it would make the transformation much more interesting than simply making her stronger.

Why Chapter 99 Could Be a Major Turning Point
What makes this cliffhanger more exciting to me is that Kumugi’s transformation isn’t just about combat power. It represents a change in how she sees herself.
For much of the chapter, everyone is discussing whether Kumugi should even be allowed near the danger. By the final page, that question has basically been answered.
She isn’t standing behind the others anymore.
She has been entrusted with something enormous, and now she has to decide what to do with it.
That’s why I’m much more interested in Kumugi’s reaction than the actual weapons. The funniest outcome would be for her to remain completely terrified while accidentally possessing one of the most destructive magical abilities we’ve seen so far.
And honestly, that feels very appropriate for Ichi the Witch.
Final Thoughts
Chapter 98 feels like the beginning of a new phase for Kumugi. She has gone from being someone the others needed to protect into someone who might soon be protecting everyone else.
Gokuraku’s loyalty, Boxster’s overprotectiveness, and Amadoro’s bizarre naming ritual all contribute to that development, but the final transformation is what steals the show.
I’m especially curious to see whether Kumugi Ribboncandy Harvest is as ridiculously powerful as the final page makes it look. If she really can deploy all those weapons simultaneously, the balance of the rescue team could change dramatically.
My prediction? Chapter 99 opens with everyone staring at Kumugi’s new form, Boxster panicking, and Kumugi having absolutely no idea how to control what Amadoro just gave her. Then something goes wrong, forcing her to use the new ability for real.
That would be the perfect combination of comedy, action, and character development—and exactly the kind of chapter I want from Ichi the Witch right now.
