The Naruto fandom has been through enough fake-outs, cryptic countdowns, and “huge announcements” to know better than to celebrate too early. Still, this time feels different. A new Naruto presentation is officially scheduled for New York Comic Con on October 10, 2026, and the timing could hardly be more deliberate: October 10 is Naruto Uzumaki’s canon birthday.

That alone would be enough to get Reddit exploding, but the guest list makes the situation even more interesting. Junko Takeuchi, the legendary Japanese voice of Naruto, and Noriaki Sugiyama, the voice of Sasuke Uchiha, are both set to appear at the event. When two of the most recognizable voices in the franchise are flown to the United States for a presentation called “Naruto: What’s Next?”, it is difficult not to wonder whether something genuinely major is coming.

The panel is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM ET at the Empire Stage inside the Javits Center. Officially, the presentation will cover the anime, the Naruto Card Game, and the broader future of the franchise. But naturally, fans are focusing on one particular phrase: “exciting new projects.”

And honestly, that is where things get really interesting.

Why October 10, 2026 Could Be a Huge Day for Naruto

Naruto has never really disappeared. Even when there wasn’t a new anime episode airing every week, the franchise remained one of the biggest names in anime. Manga sales, games, merchandise, streaming, and the continued popularity of the original series have kept the shinobi world alive.

But the anime side of the franchise has been stuck in an unusual position for years.

The original Naruto and Naruto Shippuden series are complete. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations stopped airing in March 2023 after finishing its first major part. Meanwhile, the manga has moved into the much darker Boruto: Two Blue Vortex era.

Then there are the mysterious four anniversary episodes.

These were announced back in 2022 as part of Naruto’s 20th-anniversary celebration and were supposed to arrive in September 2023. Instead, the premiere was postponed shortly before release, with the production team saying additional work was necessary to improve the quality.

Since then? Silence.

For a franchise this enormous, that silence has become almost a running joke among fans.

The Four Anniversary Episodes Are Still the Safest Prediction

If I had to bet on one thing being shown at NYCC, the delayed anniversary episodes would be near the top of my list.

The concept itself is incredibly appealing. Rather than continuing the story, these specials were designed to celebrate the original Naruto anime with newly animated material. That means Team 7, early Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi could return with modern production values while still feeling connected to the series that started everything.

A proper trailer would probably be enough to dominate social media for days.

Imagine seeing Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura redesigned with modern animation while hearing Takeuchi and Sugiyama again. For longtime fans, that would hit differently from another sequel announcement because it would directly target the nostalgia that made Naruto such a phenomenon in the first place.

At this point, a confirmed release date for the four anniversary episodes would already be a major announcement.

Could Naruto Actually Get a Full Remake?

Now we get into the theory that has caused some of the loudest arguments among fans: a complete Naruto remake.

Personally, I can understand why people want it.

Naruto Shippuden has an enormous amount of filler. Some filler episodes are genuinely entertaining, but there is no denying that the overall viewing experience can be exhausting for newcomers. A modern adaptation that sticks closely to Masashi Kishimoto’s manga could potentially turn Naruto into a much cleaner, faster-paced experience.

The success of modern re-adaptations across major anime franchises has only made this idea more tempting.

A remake could offer:

• Modern animation and compositing
• A manga-faithful story
• Reduced filler
• Better pacing during major arcs
• Newly produced action sequences
• A fresh entry point for younger viewers

The problem is that a remake would be an enormous undertaking. Naruto and Naruto Shippuden together contain hundreds of episodes, so this isn’t the sort of project a studio quietly throws together between other productions.

That is why I wouldn’t treat a remake as the most likely announcement yet. It’s absolutely possible, but fans should keep their expectations under control.

What About Boruto: Two Blue Vortex?

This is probably the other massive possibility.

The Boruto anime has been sitting in limbo since 2023, while the manga has continued into Two Blue Vortex, a storyline that feels significantly different from the early Boruto material.

The time skip changed practically everything. Boruto himself has a completely different presence, Kawaki has become even more important, and the political and supernatural stakes have escalated dramatically. Even people who were frustrated with Boruto’s early anime pacing have started paying closer attention to the manga.

That makes an eventual anime return almost inevitable.

The bigger question is when.

If Studio Pierrot wants to bring Boruto back as a seasonal production rather than immediately returning to a weekly schedule, this could be the perfect opportunity to explain that strategy. A high-quality adaptation of Two Blue Vortex could also benefit from a more controlled production schedule.

For me, this is more exciting than simply announcing “Boruto is coming back.” If the studio shows actual footage and confirms a seasonal format with a strong production team, that would be a serious statement of intent.

The Live-Action Naruto Movie Adds Another Layer

Then there is the live-action movie.

Lionsgate has been developing a live-action Naruto adaptation with Destin Daniel Cretton attached as writer and director. Naturally, this has generated a completely different type of fan anxiety.

Anime live-action adaptations have a complicated history, and Naruto is one of those properties where casting matters enormously. Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura aren’t simply characters wearing recognizable outfits. Their personalities, relationships, fighting styles, and emotional development are fundamental to why the story works.

That makes NYCC a potentially useful platform for the movie.

If the production is moving toward filming in 2027, an appearance from Cretton, a casting reveal, concept material, or even a short production message could fit perfectly into the franchise’s larger “what’s next” presentation.

Still, I’d personally prefer the panel to focus on animation. There is simply too much unfinished anime business for me to get distracted by Hollywood just yet.

Don’t Forget the Games

The Naruto franchise has also had a long relationship with video games, and the NYCC presentation specifically mentions the Naruto Card Game.

But fans naturally want something bigger.

We’ve already seen plenty of arena fighters and adaptations of familiar storylines. What I’d love to see is a large-scale Naruto RPG that lets players explore the shinobi world beyond the usual battles.

A game set during the Great Ninja Wars, for example, could be incredible. Give players multiple villages, customizable ninja builds, different chakra styles, exploration, missions, and a story that doesn’t simply retell Naruto’s original journey.

That’s probably wishful thinking.

But hey, if we’re going to speculate, let’s have some fun with it.

My Ranking of the Most Likely NYCC Announcements

The important thing is that none of these possibilities should be treated as confirmed until the official presentation actually reveals them. Naruto fans have been burned by speculation before, and an exciting countdown doesn’t automatically mean the announcement everyone wants.

Why Fans Should Be Excited — But Careful

There is one detail I keep coming back to: the involvement of Junko Takeuchi and Noriaki Sugiyama.

Their appearances don’t guarantee a remake, a new anime, or anything else specific. Voice actors can participate in anniversary events and promotional presentations without revealing a gigantic new series.

But their presence does make this feel more meaningful than a random merchandise announcement.

And the October 10 date is almost hilariously perfect.

Naruto’s birthday. A major convention in New York. Two iconic Japanese voice actors. A presentation explicitly titled “What’s Next?” And a franchise that has multiple unfinished or dormant projects waiting for news.

At this point, expecting something substantial is completely reasonable.

The Announcement Naruto Fans Have Been Waiting For

For me, the ideal NYCC 2026 reveal would actually be a combination of several things. Give us the long-delayed anniversary episodes first, then confirm what is happening with Boruto, and finally tease whatever larger project is waiting further down the road.

A full remake would be incredible, but I don’t need it to enjoy this event. If Studio Pierrot simply proves that it has a serious plan for the future of Naruto’s anime universe, that would already be a win.

The worst thing fans can do is convince themselves that one specific theory is guaranteed and then get angry when reality is different. The Naruto franchise has plenty of possibilities on the table, and October 10 could reveal something nobody is currently predicting.

Still, I have to admit it: if that NYCC stage suddenly shows a brand-new Naruto remake trailer, the internet is going to completely lose its mind.

And honestly?

I’d be right there with everyone else.
