Nagumo, meanwhile, is still deeply connected to that world.

So imagine the scene:

Nagumo brings the weapon down.

Uzuki doesn’t react.

And then—

Sakamoto blocks it.

That would immediately create a fascinating conflict that isn’t necessarily about physical strength.

It would be about ideology.

Nagumo could argue that Uzuki deserves to die.

Sakamoto could argue that killing a broken man isn’t justice.

And suddenly we have two former Order members standing opposite each other over the exact question that has been hanging over this arc:

Can someone who has committed terrible things still be allowed to live?

That’s much more interesting to me than simply watching Uzuki get executed.

If Nagumo actually attacks while Uzuki is completely defenseless, his survival instincts could trigger another transformation.

I wouldn’t necessarily expect a brand-new permanent personality to suddenly appear out of nowhere. That would feel too convenient.

But a brief, uncontrollable defensive state?

Absolutely possible.

It could even make the situation worse.

Imagine Uzuki surviving Nagumo’s attack but waking up in a completely different psychological state. That would preserve the mystery around his fractured identity while preventing the story from simply resetting his character after the emotional revelations of Chapter 274.

What If Nagumo Is Lying?

This is the theory I find the most interesting, even though I think it’s less likely.

What if Nagumo’s apparent decision to execute Uzuki isn’t exactly what it looks like?

Nagumo is one of the most deceptive characters in Sakamoto Days. He’s constantly hiding information, manipulating situations and using misdirection.

So his “Now’s my chance” moment could potentially have another target.

Maybe he’s aware that someone else is watching.

Maybe there’s surveillance.

Maybe the JAA is monitoring the situation.

Or maybe Nagumo simply wants everyone to believe Uzuki is dead.

This would be a very Nagumo solution: turn an apparently straightforward assassination into a much larger deception.

I’m not ready to call this the most likely outcome, but I wouldn’t dismiss it either.

The Three Characters Are in Completely Different Places

The fascinating thing about the cliffhanger is that all three major characters have reached completely different emotional destinations.

And that creates a perfect triangle.

Akira wants salvation.

Nagumo wants closure.

Uzuki doesn’t even seem capable of deciding what he wants anymore.

That’s why I don’t think Chapter 275 is simply going to be another action chapter.

The real fight is ideological.

Is Sakamoto Days Entering Its Final Arc?

This is the question I keep seeing everywhere, and honestly, I understand why.

The story is pulling together an enormous number of long-running threads: Rion’s legacy, Uzuki’s fractured identity, Asaki, the Order, Nagumo and Sakamoto’s conflicting philosophies, and the consequences of the assassin world itself.

Chapter 274 certainly feels like the manga is approaching a major turning point.

But I wouldn’t say we’re definitely looking at the final arc yet.

Suzuki has enough unresolved material to keep the story moving beyond this particular confrontation.

The important distinction is that the current storyline feels like it’s approaching a point of no return.

After Chapter 274, it becomes much harder for these characters to simply go back to the way things were.

Why Chapter 275 Could Be Huge

For me, the biggest question isn’t actually whether Uzuki survives.

It’s what happens to Nagumo if he doesn’t kill him.

Nagumo has spent so much of this story operating behind jokes, disguises and effortless confidence. But Chapter 274 strips all of that away.

For once, we see exactly how much Rion’s death still affects him.

If Sakamoto stops the execution, Nagumo is going to have to confront something much harder than Uzuki:

What does he actually want?

Revenge?

Justice?

Closure?

Or simply an opportunity to make someone else hurt as much as he does?

That’s why I think the ending of Chapter 274 works so well.

It isn’t just a cliffhanger designed to make us wonder whether someone gets stabbed.

It’s asking whether these characters can break free from the cycle that created them.

And knowing Sakamoto Days, I’m expecting the answer to involve several broken bones, an absurd improvised weapon, and at least one character doing something completely insane.

If I had to rank the possibilities before reading the chapter:

1. Sakamoto interrupts Nagumo’s execution attempt — my strongest prediction.
2. Nagumo attacks but Uzuki instinctively survives — very plausible.
3. Nagumo deliberately fakes Uzuki’s death — possible and extremely Nagumo-like.
4. Uzuki develops another violent psychological state — wild, but not impossible.
5. Nagumo successfully kills Uzuki — technically possible, but I think it would be a massive structural choice for the manga.

Personally, I’m betting on the first option.

And I’m also expecting Suzuki to immediately make me regret having confidence in any prediction whatsoever.
