War of the Adults has reached the kind of point where I honestly have no idea what Kappy and Masaaki Tsuzuki are going to do next, and that is exactly why I keep coming back every week. The manga has always played with expectations, but Chapter 65, “DEMONIC DEVELOPMENTS…!!!”, might be one of the funniest examples of the series refusing to follow the obvious path.

After all the setup surrounding the mysterious facility, the VIP area, and Yutaro Urashima’s attempt to find his friends, I was fully expecting the story to launch into some ridiculous underground gambling battle. Instead, Yutaro basically looked at the whole situation, realized he was terrible at games that require reading people, and walked away.

That sounds simple on paper, but it fits Yutaro so perfectly that I couldn’t help but laugh. War of the Adults Chapter 66 now has a surprisingly interesting setup, because the easiest shortcut toward the VIP area has already fallen apart.

War of the Adults Chapter 66 is scheduled to release on Friday, September 25, 2026. The series is distributed internationally through MANGA Plus, allowing readers outside Japan to follow the weekly chapters around the same time.

So for US readers, Friday morning is the time to keep an eye on MANGA Plus. Personally, this is one of those chapters where I would avoid spoilers completely. Chapter 65 ended with such an unexpected punchline that I really want to see whether Chapter 66 immediately continues the joke or suddenly turns the situation much darker.

What Actually Happened in War of the Adults Chapter 65?

Chapter 65 begins by showing just how controlled this strange correctional facility really is. The cafeteria isn’t simply a place where prisoners eat. Everything has a system, and everyone knows there are consequences for stepping outside it.

Then the Education Officers arrive.

These enormous men in formal black suits immediately change the atmosphere. The inmates are terrified of them, and for good reason. They aren’t ordinary guards who simply walk around checking cells. Their job appears to be maintaining discipline through intimidation and enforcing the strange social rules of the facility.

The whole scene becomes even more uncomfortable when everyone is ordered to put their hands together and thank the teachers for the meal. It has that bizarre mixture of comedy and authoritarian control that War of the Adults has become so good at delivering.

Yutaro, naturally, doesn’t seem particularly impressed.

His attitude changes slightly when one of the Education Officers notices that he isn’t wearing the required prison uniform. The officer’s explanation that “sloppy clothes lead to sloppy morals” sounds ridiculous, but the reaction from the other inmates makes it obvious that this isn’t something worth arguing about.

Guppy and the others immediately panic and start apologizing on Yutaro’s behalf. Yutaro eventually changes clothes, mostly because there is no reason to create another problem for himself.

The 100,000 Lika Problem

Once the uniform situation is settled, Yutaro gets back to the real reason he’s there. He needs to reach the VIP area, and the facility has made that process deliberately complicated.

One possible route is working in the VIP section, but that requires a special work permit. The price is 100,000 Lika, which is obviously nowhere near pocket change for someone stuck inside the facility.

This is where I think the chapter’s social commentary becomes especially interesting. Yutaro jokes that the whole system feels like grinding through a badly designed RPG, but Guppy’s explanation goes beyond the joke. The facility supposedly gives everyone the same starting conditions, yet access to better opportunities still depends on money, reputation, work, or connections.

In other words, the system may claim to be fair while quietly creating a completely different hierarchy underneath.

That feels very intentional.

Yutaro’s Underground Cee-lo Disaster

Yutaro’s first instinct is basically to ignore the entire system and steal a cart to reach the VIP area. Guppy manages to stop him and instead takes him down to the B3 Recreation Room.

And this is where Chapter 65 appears to be setting up an entirely new gambling storyline.

There is an underground Cee-lo gambling operation hidden beneath the facility, complete with prisoners, money, chips, and a powerful local figure named Sarge. Sarge immediately gives off the impression of someone who controls this part of the prison’s unofficial economy.

At this point, I was expecting the classic manga setup. Yutaro would sit down, get dragged into a game, discover some hidden trick, and somehow outsmart everyone.

But nope.

Yutaro simply admits that he isn’t good at games like this. More importantly, he openly says he wouldn’t even notice if someone was cheating.

Then he refuses to play.

That is probably my favorite part of the entire chapter.

The narrator even treats the potential Cee-lo arc like it has already ended. Everyone is left staring at Yutaro while he casually asks Guppy if there is another way to reach the VIP area.

What Could Happen in War of the Adults Chapter 66?

Obviously, none of the following possibilities are confirmed. They are simply the directions that make the most sense after Chapter 65’s ending.

1. Sarge May Not Let Yutaro Leave

Yutaro just walked into Sarge’s gambling operation, rejected the game in front of everyone, and walked away. Even if Sarge isn’t personally offended, that situation creates an interesting problem for his authority.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sarge offers Yutaro a completely different deal. Instead of gambling, he could potentially ask Yutaro to complete some dangerous job in exchange for money, access, or a route toward the VIP area.

That would actually fit Yutaro better than another traditional gambling battle.

2. The Search for Shinobu Inukai Could Become More Important

One detail that shouldn’t be forgotten is Yutaro’s search for Shinobu Inukai. Yutaro has made it clear that getting to the VIP area isn’t about personal profit. He wants to help his friends.

That changes the entire purpose of this prison storyline. The 100,000 Lika barrier isn’t simply a game mechanic that Yutaro needs to overcome. It is an obstacle standing between him and the people he is trying to reach.

Chapter 66 could finally give us a clearer idea of what happened to Inukai and why the VIP section matters so much.

3. Yutaro May Have to Start Grinding for Real

The funniest possibility is also one of the most believable: Yutaro actually has to work his way through the system.

The bulletin board is already there. The rules are already established. If gambling isn’t an option, Yutaro may have to take jobs, earn money, build reputation, or find someone willing to sponsor him.

That could turn the next few chapters into a bizarre prison-life RPG, complete with quests, currency, reputation and increasingly absurd jobs.

4. The Principal’s Office Could Finally Become Relevant

The Education Officers repeatedly mention the terrifying Principal’s Office, but we still don’t know exactly what happens there.

Considering Yutaro’s tendency to challenge systems rather than quietly follow them, it feels inevitable that he will eventually attract the attention of whoever runs this place.

Whether Chapter 66 introduces the Principal directly or simply gives us another clue, I suspect this mysterious office is going to become much more important as the arc continues.

Why Chapter 65 Worked So Well

For me, the biggest strength of Chapter 65 is that it didn’t give us the chapter I thought we were going to get.

A lesser version of this story could have stretched the underground gambling setup across several chapters. Yutaro would discover hidden rules, Sarge would reveal a secret technique, someone would accuse someone else of cheating, and we’d spend weeks watching dice hit a table.

Instead, Yutaro basically says, “I’m bad at this,” and leaves.

It is funny, but it also tells us something important about his character. Yutaro isn’t interested in proving that he’s the smartest person in the room. He understands his own limitations and doesn’t want to gamble with other people’s lives simply because the story expects him to become some genius strategist.

That makes him feel much more human.

My Take Before Chapter 66

I’m honestly more curious about the prison’s economic system now than I was about the gambling match itself. The combination of the Education Officers, the 100,000 Lika requirement, the VIP area and the underground economy makes this facility feel like its own miniature society.

And Yutaro has basically arrived in the middle of it and immediately started looking for the fastest way to break the rules without getting himself killed.

That’s a pretty good recipe for chaos.

War of the Adults Chapter 66 has a lot of directions it could take, but the most interesting part is that Chapter 65 deliberately removed what looked like the obvious route. Yutaro isn’t becoming a gambling genius, and he isn’t magically bypassing the system either. Now he has to find another way to reach the VIP area and, hopefully, get closer to the friends he’s trying to save.

Whatever happens next, I’m definitely reading Chapter 66 as soon as it drops. If Kappy and Masaaki Tsuzuki pull another fake-out like the Cee-lo ending, I genuinely have no idea what to expect anymore—and honestly, that’s probably the best place for this manga to leave us.
