WITCHRIV Chapter 38 Release Date & Breakdown: Miramira’s Sinking Magic and The Mindscape War

If you ask me, WITCHRIV Chapter 37 is where this arc finally hits another gear. Hakuri has been steadily mixing dark fantasy, strange magic systems, psychological horror, and surprisingly emotional character moments, but the latest chapter feels different. It is chaotic, creepy, and genuinely exciting.

The biggest reason is Miramira.

While Nona and Raloud are fighting their way through the Anti-Magic Bureau’s forces in the real world, Miramira is trapped inside the collapsing Memory Pot with Cathié. What starts as a disturbing attempt to rewrite Cathié’s memories turns into a full-blown nightmare when a bizarre Camera Demonoid appears.

And then Miramira finally shows what her magic can really do.

Her Mevi-Jilara, or Sinking Magic, could easily become one of the most interesting abilities we’ve seen in WITCHRIV so far.

Chapter 37 Was Basically Two Battles at Once

What I really liked about Chapter 37 is how Hakuri keeps cutting between two completely different forms of combat.

Outside the lighthouse, Nona and Raloud are dealing with a tactical problem. Inside the Memory Pot, Miramira and Cathié are fighting something much more personal.

One battle is about breaking magic.

The other is about protecting someone’s identity and memories.

That contrast works incredibly well.

Miramira Faces the Camera Demonoid

Inside the lighthouse’s Memory Pot, Cathié is subjected to a horrifying illusion involving a fake version of her deceased mother. The purpose is not simply to scare her. The illusion attempts to overwrite Cathié’s understanding of what happened to her family.

That is what makes the scene so disturbing.

Cathié remembers things perfectly, so the false memories clash violently with what she actually knows. Her mind begins rejecting the illusion, and the environment itself starts falling apart.

Then the Camera Demonoid appears.

This thing looks like something that escaped from a nightmare designed by someone who had way too much fun with horror imagery: a gigantic skeletal creature with a camera lens built into its body, floating above the ruined landscape and shouting variations of “SAY… CHEESE!”

It is bizarre.

It is creepy.

And somehow it fits WITCHRIV perfectly.

The fake mother then begins to deteriorate into a grotesque monster, making the entire scene even more unsettling.

But this is where Miramira stops being defensive.

Miramira’s Sinking Magic Is the Real Highlight

Miramira’s reaction might be my favorite part of the chapter.

She doesn’t panic.

She doesn’t try to run.

Instead, she becomes furious because the monster is corrupting Cathié’s memories.

That motivation makes her next move hit harder.

Miramira activates Mevi-Jilara: Sinking Magic.

The ability creates an overwhelming force of weight and pressure, bringing enormous chunks of stone crashing down onto the fake mother. The monster is pinned to the ground under the sheer force of Miramira’s magic.

And I love the implication here.

This isn’t just an attack designed to kill something.

Miramira specifically talks about her power existing to protect others.

That gives Sinking Magic a much stronger identity than simply being another destructive spell. Her ability fits her character. She is essentially turning overwhelming physical force into a shield for someone who cannot protect herself.

Now she has another problem.

The Camera Demonoid is still watching.

What Is the Camera Demonoid Actually Doing?

This is where Chapter 38 could become really interesting.

The Camera Demonoid appears to be connected to the magic tool being used by the Anti-Magic Bureau investigator. Its behavior strongly suggests that it isn’t simply a random monster inside the Memory Pot.

The repeated emphasis on its camera imagery, photographs, consciousness, and the command to smile makes me think its primary function is related to capturing, recording, or manipulating mental information.

If that’s true, Miramira isn’t simply fighting a monster.

She’s fighting the mechanism that is keeping the entire psychological trap alive.

That distinction could matter enormously in Chapter 38.

I expect Miramira to experiment with Sinking Magic rather than simply throwing larger rocks at the problem. She may discover that the ability can manipulate the environment around the Camera Demonoid, creating barriers, crushing its physical structure, or disrupting its attacks.

And honestly, seeing Hakuri turn a seemingly straightforward gravity-type ability into something more creative would be fantastic.

Cathié Could Be the Key to Breaking the Mindscape

There is another character I don’t want to overlook: Cathié.

Her perfect memory is basically the reason this entire illusion is beginning to fail.

The false reality can try to rewrite her past, but Cathié’s mind keeps saying, No. That’s not what happened.

That makes her ability much more important than a simple character trait.

Miramira’s intervention could finally give Cathié the emotional strength to reject the illusion completely.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Chapter 38 gives Cathié a major psychological breakthrough.

She doesn’t necessarily need to suddenly become an unstoppable fighter. In fact, I think it would be more interesting if she contributes by recognizing the rules of the Memory Pot and helping Miramira understand how the illusion works.

That would make the victory feel earned.

Meanwhile, Nona and Raloud Are Breaking Everything

The other half of Chapter 37 is almost hilariously chaotic.

Nona and Raloud are dealing with Mirage Demonoids whose bodies can’t be affected normally by Nona’s Alto-Are, or Stitching Magic.

Her threads simply pass through them.

At first, that sounds like a nightmare matchup.

But Raloud notices something important: while the demonoids themselves are intangible, the giant lanterns they’re carrying are very much real.

That’s the trick.

Break the lantern, and the demonoid disappears.

This is exactly the sort of magical problem-solving I enjoy in WITCHRIV. Nobody simply wins because they have the bigger attack. They have to figure out how the enemy works first.

Raloud then brings out Luvorog, Wheel Magic, and the battle turns into a destruction festival.

Nona also drops another huge piece of information.

The obvious exit might not actually be the real exit.

That changes everything.

Instead of escaping through the expected route, Nona and Raloud decide to push directly toward the lighthouse and rescue Miramira and Cathié.

And their attitude is basically:

Forget the careful plan. Let’s destroy everything in our way.

I can’t lie. That is a pretty great way to end the chapter.

My Predictions for WITCHRIV Chapter 38

I don’t expect Chapter 38 to slow down much. If anything, the two battlefields are probably going to start colliding.

  1. Miramira will directly confront the Camera Demonoid. Sinking Magic should become the primary counter to its attacks, and we may finally learn the full limits of Mevi-Jilara.
  2. Cathié will begin breaking free from the memory manipulation. Her perfect recall should become the key to destroying the false reality rather than simply resisting it.
  3. Nona and Raloud will reach the lighthouse. Their discovery about the fake exit makes it unlikely that they’re going to waste time trying to escape normally.
  4. The physical Memory Pots may become the battlefield’s weak point. If the investigator’s magic tool is responsible for the nightmare inside, damaging the physical setup could have consequences inside the Mindscape.
  5. The two battles could synchronize. This is the outcome I want most. Miramira attacking the Camera Demonoid from inside while Nona and Raloud destroy the source from outside would be a perfect payoff to the dual-front structure.

Why This Arc Is Working So Well

What makes this part of WITCHRIV stand out is that the action isn’t separated from the characters.

Miramira’s magic isn’t impressive simply because giant rocks fall from the sky.

It is impressive because she is using that power to protect Cathié’s memories.

Nona’s Stitching Magic doesn’t suddenly become stronger because the story needs her to win. Instead, she has to understand why her normal technique doesn’t work.

Raloud doesn’t overpower the Mirage Demonoids. He figures out what part of them is actually tangible.

That’s good fantasy combat.

The characters observe, adapt, and exploit weaknesses.

At the same time, Hakuri keeps layering psychological horror underneath everything. The fake mother, the corrupted memories, the Camera Demonoid, and Cathié’s resistance all make the arc feel considerably darker than a standard magical battle.

And that’s probably why I’m so interested in Chapter 38.

We aren’t just waiting to see who wins a fight.

We’re waiting to find out whether Miramira can protect Cathié’s mind before the entire Memory Pot collapses around them.

Final Thoughts

WITCHRIV Chapter 38 has a lot to live up to, but Chapter 37 has created an excellent setup.

Miramira has finally revealed Mevi-Jilara.

The Camera Demonoid is still active.

Cathié is on the verge of breaking through the psychological manipulation.

Nona and Raloud are charging toward the lighthouse.

And the Anti-Magic Bureau’s supposedly safe strategy is falling apart faster than expected.

Personally, I’m most interested in seeing the full extent of Sinking Magic. Miramira’s statement that her power exists to protect others makes me think Hakuri is setting up more than a flashy attack. There may be a deeper connection between her magic, her personality, and the role she plays in protecting the people around her.

If Chapter 38 brings the physical battle and the Mindscape battle together, this could easily become one of the strongest chapters of the current WITCHRIV arc.

For now, August 26 can’t come soon enough.
