Characters like Zenon Zogratis and Lucifero didn’t just overpower enemies — they completely dominated veteran Magic Knights like they were nothing.
For the first time in the series, it genuinely felt like the Clover Kingdom might lose everything.
The Golden Dawn massacre especially changed the tone overnight. Until then, many fans expected the usual shonen formula where every important character escapes at the last second. Instead, the story opened the war arc by wiping out half of one of the strongest squads in the kingdom.
That moment alone made readers think major captains like Yami or Nacht might actually die later on.
Confirmed Hero Deaths During the Raid
Even though the main cast mostly survives, several important characters absolutely do not make it out alive.
Hamon Caseus

And honestly, after all the chaos, seeing Asta, Yuno, and the captains finally overcome the devils felt genuinely earned.
