Instead, Mariabell represents something much more human: ambition, manipulation, money, influence, and the belief that everyone can eventually be bought or controlled.

That makes her role in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 4 particularly fascinating. Her greatest weapon isn’t simply her Unique Skill, Greed, but the way she combines that power with an exceptionally sharp mind and a deep understanding of human behavior.

For me, that’s what makes Mariabell more dangerous than her raw combat statistics suggest. She doesn’t need to defeat someone in a fair fight. She would much rather make sure they never realize they are fighting her in the first place.

Who Is Mariabell Rosso?

Mariabell Rosso, often associated with the title Mariabell of Greed, is connected to the powerful Rosso family and plays a major role in the political machinery surrounding the Western Nations.

Unlike many Tensura antagonists, Mariabell’s influence comes from the human world. She understands economics, politics, social hierarchy, and, most importantly, desire.

Her background also makes her unusual. Mariabell’s existence is tied to multiple lifetimes, giving her an extraordinary accumulation of knowledge and experience. Her previous existence as Maria Rosso and her later life in a modern world help explain why she approaches the Central World differently from ordinary humans.

Imagine having memories and experience from a technologically advanced civilization and then being reborn in a fantasy world where magic, monsters, heroes, and Demon Lords are real.

That combination would already be dangerous.

Mariabell takes it even further.

She develops an almost absolute confidence that everything has a price.

And that belief becomes the perfect foundation for Greed.

Why Mariabell’s Greed Is So Dangerous

The Unique Skill Greed isn’t dangerous simply because it gives Mariabell another magical attack. Its real strength is that it interacts with one of the most fundamental aspects of intelligent beings: desire.

Everyone wants something.

• Money.
• Safety.
• Recognition.
• Revenge.
• Love.
• Survival.

Mariabell understands that these desires can be turned into weapons.

The victim may even believe they are making the decision themselves.

That is much more interesting to me than simple mind control because it fits Mariabell’s character perfectly. She isn’t a berserker. She is a strategist.

Mariabell’s control over desire can be approached in different ways.

The subtle method is psychological. She understands someone’s ambition and presents herself as the person who can help fulfill it.

The more direct method is far more dangerous: overwhelming the target with artificially intensified desire and crushing their ability to resist.

In practical terms, Mariabell can turn a person’s greatest weakness into the very chain that binds them.

That makes her especially effective against ordinary humans who have little or no spiritual protection.

Greed Flare and the Combat Side of Her Skill

Although Mariabell is primarily a manipulator, Greed isn’t completely useless in a direct confrontation.

She can use the power associated with desire and spiritual energy to enhance herself or those under her influence. Her abilities can therefore transform otherwise ordinary fighters into considerably more dangerous opponents.

Mariabell isn’t necessarily terrifying because she can personally overpower every elite warrior in the world.

Rather than functioning like a conventional sword strike or magical projectile, Lost Entropy is presented as an attack capable of destroying the structure and stability of its target.

That concept fits Mariabell surprisingly well.

Greed is about accumulating and controlling.

Lost Entropy represents the opposite side of that equation: taking something stable and reducing it to nothing useful.

The technique is particularly frightening against opponents who lack the kind of supernatural defenses found among the strongest characters in Tensura.

However, this is also where the enormous power gap between ordinary Unique Skills and Ultimate Skills becomes impossible to ignore.

Why Mariabell Could Not Beat Rimuru

This is ultimately where Mariabell’s plan falls apart.

Her biggest mistake wasn’t underestimating her own ability.

It was underestimating Rimuru Tempest.

Mariabell operates under a worldview where intelligence, preparation, influence, and desire can eventually overcome almost any obstacle.

Against normal human society, that philosophy works remarkably well.

Against a True Demon Lord with access to Ultimate-level abilities?

Not so much.

Rimuru exists on an entirely different part of the power scale.

This is one of my favorite things about Tensura’s power system. A character can possess an ability that sounds completely broken until they encounter someone operating under a fundamentally higher set of rules.

Mariabell’s Greed is terrifying.

But Ultimate Skills play a different game.

The Yuuki Problem

Mariabell’s downfall becomes even more interesting when Yuuki Kagurazaka enters the picture.

She believed she understood Yuuki.

That was the mistake.

Mariabell viewed him as another piece on the board, someone whose desires could eventually be controlled and redirected. But Yuuki was never the simple pawn she imagined.

His ambitions were enormous, his personality was difficult to completely suppress, and his own plans extended far beyond Mariabell’s immediate political objectives.

This creates an almost poetic reversal.

Mariabell spent her entire life believing that desire could be controlled.

Eventually, someone else’s desire became too strong for her to control.

That is exactly the kind of irony I expect from a villain built around Greed.

The Evolution Toward Mammon

After Mariabell’s defeat, the story takes another important step involving her Unique Skill.

The power associated with Greed eventually becomes connected to Yuuki and develops into Mammon, Lord of Greed.

This transition is important because it demonstrates one of Tensura’s recurring ideas: skills aren’t merely equipment that someone carries around.

They can be deeply connected to the user’s soul, desires, identity, and potential.

Mariabell wanted to possess everything.

Ironically, she ultimately lost possession of the very power that represented her greatest desire.

What Makes Mariabell Such a Good Tensura Villain?

Personally, I think Mariabell works because she provides a different kind of threat.

Tensura has plenty of characters who can walk onto a battlefield and erase armies.

Mariabell doesn’t need to do that.

She can sit in a room, ask someone what they want, and potentially turn their answer into a weapon.

Her greatest strength is therefore not raw destruction. It’s understanding people.

That also makes her eventual defeat more satisfying.

Rimuru doesn’t simply prove that he has a bigger number on the power scale. His existence exposes the limits of Mariabell’s entire worldview.

She believes humanity can be controlled through desire.

Rimuru’s world is filled with beings whose strength, loyalty, bonds, and ambitions cannot be reduced to simple economic calculations.

That is something Mariabell never fully understands.

Final Thoughts on Mariabell Rosso

Mariabell Rosso is one of those characters who becomes more interesting the more you look beyond her villain role.

Her Unique Skill Greed perfectly reflects her personality. Her political manipulation matches her understanding of human desire, while Lost Entropy gives her a frightening combat option against opponents who aren’t protected by the highest levels of Tensura’s power system.

But her greatest weakness is also connected to her greatest strength.

Mariabell believes she understands desire better than anyone else.

She doesn’t.

And when she encounters people whose ambitions, abilities, and loyalties cannot be reduced to something she can purchase or manipulate, her entire strategy begins to collapse.

That’s why I think Mariabell’s story is more than another battle between a powerful villain and Rimuru.

It is a clash between control and freedom, greed and loyalty, calculation and unpredictability.

For a character who believed everything could ultimately belong to her, Mariabell’s final fate is almost perfectly ironic.

She wanted to control the world through Greed.

In the end, Greed itself became part of the reason she lost everything.
