After taking a devastating hit, Issac tries to regenerate.

Except… he can’t.

Instead of healing, his body begins falling apart. He coughs up dark fluid, and then one of the creepiest scenes in the manga happens.

Hundreds of insects start pouring out of his wounds.

Not blood. Not flesh. Bugs.

The pages are genuinely disturbing in the best possible way. It almost feels like something out of a horror manga rather than a fantasy action series.

Even while his body is collapsing, Issac is still obsessed with consuming Roberto, screaming that he’ll devour every last piece of him.

That single moment completely changed my understanding of the character.

Brother Roberto Is Absolutely Terrifying

I liked Roberto before this chapter.

Now I think he’s one of the most dangerous characters in the entire series.

The reason is simple: he never loses his composure.

A giant swarm of flesh-eating insects is rushing toward him, and he barely reacts. He simply folds his hands together and prays.

“Hey, brat… you ready to go to hell?”

That line goes incredibly hard.

Even more shocking is the fact that Roberto doesn’t immediately rely on magic. He physically rushes toward Issac and grabs him himself.

The guy is apparently a powerhouse even without divine abilities.

The Arrival of “Holy Ocean’s Embrace”

Then we reach the final pages.

And wow.

I had to stare at the spread for a while.

Roberto activates a new technique called Holy Ocean’s Embrace.

A gigantic, multi-eyed Goddess manifests above the cathedral and literally holds the entire building within her hands.

It’s beautiful.

It’s terrifying.

And honestly, it feels like something from a completely different scale of storytelling.

Up until now, the series has kept its battles relatively grounded. This chapter suddenly shows us powers that look almost apocalyptic.

The editorial text says that the entire church is engulfed by the light of purification and destruction.

That wording is important.

Purification and destruction.

Not salvation. Not protection. Destruction.

The Biggest Reveal: Issac’s True Heritage

The final narration confirms something fans have been theorizing for weeks.

Issac is apparently the child of the Hero and the Demon King.

That single sentence changes everything.

It also explains why his powers are so bizarre.

Personally, I no longer think Issac is entirely human.

The insect swarm feels more like a colony or parasite than a normal body. It’s possible that the boy we’ve been seeing is merely a shell for something much older and far more monstrous.

If that’s true, Chapter 21 may finally reveal his real form.

And honestly? I can’t wait.

What Happens Next?

I have a few predictions.

1. The Holy Light Will Hurt Issac

This seems almost guaranteed.

If Roberto’s power truly represents divine purification, the insect creatures inside Issac should react violently.

I wouldn’t be surprised if his human appearance literally burns away.

2. Roberto Might Not Be a Hero

I know this sounds strange, but the chapter made me question his morality.

He unleashes a massive spell despite the fact that other people are still inside the cathedral.

That feels incredibly reckless.

Maybe his faith in the Goddess has become dangerous.

Maybe he’s willing to sacrifice anyone if it means destroying evil.

That’s not exactly heroic.

3. Jill Is About to Have His Biggest Moment

The chapter specifically reminds us that Jill is still inside the church.

That cannot be accidental.

I think Chapter 21 will finally give him a major spotlight moment.

Unlike Roberto or Issac, Jill survives through intelligence and adaptability.

He doesn’t have world-ending magic.

He has to think.

I suspect he’ll discover some hidden chamber or underground area to survive the incoming blast.

Why This Manga Suddenly Feels Special

I read a lot of dark fantasy manga, and very few of them surprise me anymore.

This one still does.

• Family drama.
• Religious horror.
• Insane creature designs.
• Unpredictable power scaling.
• Genuinely creepy mysteries.

All of these elements have created something that feels unique.

At times it reminds me of Chainsaw Man, especially with its grotesque body horror.

At other moments it feels closer to Hellsing, with its religious imagery and overwhelming supernatural powers.

But despite those influences, it still has its own identity.

And after Chapter 20, I genuinely believe The Hero’s Bereaved Family has become one of the most exciting weekly manga releases right now.

Final Thoughts

Chapter 20 wasn’t just another cliffhanger.

It felt like the series leveling up in real time.

Issac’s horrifying transformation, Roberto’s terrifying divine power, and the revelation about the Demon King’s bloodline have completely changed the stakes.

Now Chapter 21 has an enormous job ahead of it.
