Could that be intentional?

Possibly. But it could also be nothing more than a coincidence.

The theory claims that Asta’s father could have been a powerful devil, potentially Astaroth himself. Since devils operate under completely different rules from humans, fans argue that one of them might have been capable of surviving Richita’s life-draining condition.

It would also create an interesting contrast. Asta is the human who uses Anti-Magic and fights alongside Liebe, while secretly having a connection to the highest levels of the Underworld.

That would certainly be a massive reveal.

Still, there is a problem with this theory that I can’t ignore: the name similarity alone isn’t enough evidence. Black Clover uses a lot of names inspired by mythology and demonology, so Asta and Astaroth sharing part of a name doesn’t automatically establish a family relationship.

Yuno is already the character with the incredible hidden heritage. He has royal blood, immense talent, and a natural connection to magic. Asta is the complete opposite. He is the kid who was born without mana and still decided that becoming the Wizard King was possible.

If Tabata suddenly reveals that Asta’s father was an ancient god or the most powerful devil in existence, it could undermine part of what makes Asta special.

The beauty of his character is that he doesn’t need an impressive family tree.

In a story obsessed with fate, bloodlines, inherited power, and magical talent, Asta represents the ultimate rejection of those ideas.
