Chapter 41 doesn’t need a huge cast or a dozen simultaneous fights to feel important. Instead, it locks Mira inside the collapsing Mirage Space and gives her one brutal problem to solve: survive an opponent who has every advantage.

And honestly, I think the chapter works because Mira doesn’t suddenly become an unstoppable powerhouse. She wins because she finally understands her own magic differently.

That distinction matters.

With WITCHRIV Chapter 42 scheduled for September 30, 2026, the manga is now sitting on one of its nastiest cliffhangers yet. Mira defeated the Bureau officer, but the victory came at an enormous cost. She can barely move, Cathie is terrified, and the Bureau almost certainly isn’t finished with them.

Here’s what actually happened in Chapter 41 and what I think could happen next.

Chapter 41 Was Really About Mira Learning What Her Magic Can Do

The biggest surprise for me wasn’t the Bureau officer or even the destruction of the Mirage Space.

It was Mira finally realizing that she has been thinking about her own magic too narrowly.

The battle takes place inside the Mirage Space, a strange mental environment powered by a highly refined magical lantern. The Bureau officer has already extracted memories from Cathie and used them to identify people connected to Quovelta and Mira.

He then tries to make Mira an offer.

Give up Cathie’s completed memory album, and he’ll supposedly keep quiet about her escape.

Mira doesn’t buy it for even a second.

She immediately calls out the Bureau’s desperation, pointing out how much effort they’ve already invested in capturing a single Quovelta member. It’s a small moment, but I liked it because Mira isn’t acting fearless. She’s terrified, injured and exhausted, yet she still refuses to accept an obviously dishonest deal.

Then the officer stops talking and starts attacking.

And that’s where things get ugly.

The Bureau’s Magnet Magic Tool Gives Mira a Serious Problem

The officer’s weapon is a magnet-based magic tool that can separate into multiple blades and control them through magnetic force.

Against Mira, it’s a nightmare matchup.

The blades move quickly enough to overwhelm her defenses, and one of them tears into her shoulder before she gets thrown against the wall. Cathie can only watch.

But the officer isn’t satisfied with physically beating her.

He starts attacking Mira psychologically.

He brings up her brother and reminds her that she wasn’t able to save her family. Then he suggests that Cathie will eventually suffer the same fate.

That is the moment where the fight becomes much more personal.

Mira admits the truth herself: she knows she’s weak, and she knows she failed to save her brother.

But instead of breaking her, that realization seems to clear her head.

Mira’s “Sinking Magic” Wasn’t Actually a Failure

This is easily my favorite part of Chapter 41.

The Bureau officer assumes Mira’s Mevi-Jilara, or Sinking Magic, has failed because the refined magical lantern is too durable to destroy.

And technically, he’s right.

Mira doesn’t destroy the lantern.

She sinks it.

That difference completely changes the fight.

By forcing the massive magical object deeper into the floor, Mira changes the conditions around it. The surrounding area becomes an anchor for her magic, and when the Bureau officer tries to retrieve his magnetic blades, something goes wrong.

The weapon won’t move.

The blades have effectively become trapped.

The officer realizes that Mira’s magical force has suddenly increased, and that’s when she finally understands what she’s capable of.

Mira Discovers Multi-Point Magic

Mira explains that she has always imagined her magic like throwing a punch.

One target.

One concentrated point.

One impact.

But during this fight, she imagines something different.

Instead of making her magic behave like a fist, she imagines spreading her hand and concentrating the force through her individual fingertips.

That allows her to affect multiple points simultaneously.

It’s a simple idea on paper, but the manga makes it feel like a genuine breakthrough. Mira isn’t receiving some convenient new transformation. She’s learning how to use an ability she already possessed in a completely different way.

And the fact that she never received the kind of formal magical education the Bureau expects becomes important here.

She wasn’t taught to think about magic according to conventional rules.

That limitation has also become an advantage.

The Final Attack Completely Changes the Battlefield

Once Mira understands the trick, she pushes her magic against the officer’s magnetic weapon.

The question becomes almost absurdly simple:

Which force is stronger?

Mira’s answer comes with a massive blast.

Her multi-point Sinking Magic tears through the floor and destroys the structure beneath them. The Bureau officer loses his footing and falls into the collapsing space while his weapon is left behind.

His reaction is surprisingly interesting.

Rather than responding with hatred, he seems genuinely impressed by the sheer power of Mira’s magic.

That ending makes the fight feel less like Mira simply overpowering an enemy and more like she has crossed an important threshold as a mage.

She has discovered a completely new way of thinking.

The Mirage Space Finally Collapses

But defeating the officer isn’t enough.

Mira realizes that the magical lantern is actually the key to escaping the Mirage Space. She uses what little strength she has left to dispel it.

The false environment collapses.

The sky disappears. The photographs vanish. The illusionary landscape breaks apart.

Mira and Cathie finally return to the real world.

And then the chapter twists the knife.

Mira’s Victory Comes With a Terrible Price

Mira is completely exhausted.

Cathie is relieved to see her alive, but Mira immediately thinks about getting Cathie somewhere safe. She tries to stand.

She can’t.

Her vision starts to blur, her body stops responding properly, and she collapses.

That final scene is probably the most important part of the chapter for WITCHRIV Chapter 42 predictions.

Mira may have won the fight, but she is in no condition to defend herself.

And Cathie is now standing beside an unconscious mage.

That changes everything.

What Could Happen in WITCHRIV Chapter 42?

I wouldn’t be surprised if Chapter 42 slows down after the insanity of Chapter 41. There are several obvious directions Hakuri could take.

1. Cathie Finally Gets Her Moment

Cathie has spent much of this situation as the person Mira needs to protect.

Now the roles are reversed.

With Mira unconscious, Cathie may have to figure out how to move her, hide her, or simply keep her alive until help arrives. I think this could be a major character moment because Cathie doesn’t need to suddenly become a fighter.

Protecting Mira doesn’t necessarily mean defeating an enemy.

It could mean refusing to leave her behind.

2. Nona and Raloud Could Track the Explosion

The Mirage Space has disappeared, and Mira’s new magic created a pretty enormous disturbance.

That makes Nona Ewin and Raloud’s possible return extremely interesting.

If they can detect the magical residue, they could potentially locate Mira and Cathie before the Bureau organizes another search.

The problem is timing.

If Bureau reinforcements are already moving toward the area, Nona and Raloud may have only a short window.

3. Mira’s New Technique May Have Consequences

The most interesting question isn’t whether Mira can use multi-point magic again.

It’s what using it did to her body.

Chapter 41 makes it very clear that the technique came at a serious physical cost. Mira pushed herself far beyond what her body could comfortably handle.

Chapter 42 could therefore explore the consequences of her breakthrough and potentially establish new limitations for this technique.

That would be a smart direction because otherwise multi-point magic risks becoming an easy solution to every future fight.

Final Thoughts

For me, WITCHRIV Chapter 41 is less about Mira defeating a Bureau officer and more about Mira finally understanding her own potential.

She doesn’t win because someone gives her a stronger spell.

She wins because she changes the way she thinks.

That is much more satisfying.

At the same time, the chapter refuses to give her a clean victory. Mira is unconscious, Cathie is vulnerable, and the Bureau remains a threat. So while the battle inside the Mirage Space is over, the consequences are only beginning.

I’m especially curious about Cathie in Chapter 42. We’ve spent so much time watching Mira protect her that seeing Cathie forced into the protector role could give the next chapter a completely different emotional rhythm.

And if Nona and Raloud arrive at exactly the wrong—or right—moment, we could be heading straight into another confrontation.

WITCHRIV Chapter 42 arrives September 30, 2026. Until then, Mira’s new multi-point magic is easily one of the biggest developments in the series, and I’m very interested to see whether Hakuri treats it as a permanent evolution or a dangerous technique that Mira still doesn’t fully understand.
