Kindergarten Wars Release Date: When Are New Manga Chapters and English Volumes Coming Out?

Every once in a while, a manga shows up with such a ridiculous premise that you expect it to burn out after a few chapters. Kindergarten Wars did the exact opposite for me. I opened the first chapter expecting a quick laugh, and before I knew it I had binged everything that was available. Somehow, a story about assassins protecting kindergarten kids shouldn’t work… yet it absolutely does.

Where to Read Kindergarten Wars Officially The Ultimate Manga Guide

When Did Kindergarten Wars Start?

The manga, known in Japan as Yochien Wars, is written and illustrated by You Chiba. It first appeared on September 15, 2022 through Shueisha’s Jump+ Rookies platform, where independent creators can publish their work.

Readers immediately noticed how different it felt from typical action manga. Instead of another high school battle series, it mixed:

  • Absurd comedy
  • Stylish gunfights
  • Romance
  • Elite assassins
  • Surprisingly heartfelt character moments

The popularity didn’t take long to snowball. By March 2023, the series officially moved to the main Shonen Jump+ service, giving it a much bigger audience.

Even better for overseas fans, the English translation launched on MANGA Plus on May 11, 2023, making it incredibly easy to follow alongside Japanese readers.

Kindergarten Wars Chapter Release Schedule

For most of its run, Kindergarten Wars has followed a weekly digital schedule, with new chapters usually appearing on Wednesdays (or Thursday depending on your time zone).

That said, the schedule hasn’t been completely fixed.

As the story entered larger story arcs, You Chiba occasionally slowed the pace with planned breaks. There was even a lengthy hiatus during 2025, mainly to maintain the artwork quality and allow the author time to recover before continuing.

Right now, the easiest way to keep track of new chapters is through MANGA Plus, which displays countdowns for upcoming releases and lets readers access the newest chapters for free.

English Volume Release Dates

Digital readers are eating well, but physical collectors finally have something to celebrate too.

Yen Press licensed the English edition, and they’ve been steadily releasing paperback volumes for North America.

Here’s the current release lineup.

English VolumeRelease Date
Volume 1May 27, 2025
Volume 2September 30, 2025
Volume 3January 20, 2026

Considering Japan is already far ahead with collected volumes, the English release schedule is moving at a respectable pace.

If the current pattern continues, readers can probably expect new English books every three to four months throughout 2026 and beyond.

For anyone who enjoys collecting manga, this is honestly one of those series that looks fantastic on a shelf. The covers have plenty of personality, and the action panels are much easier to appreciate in print.

Why Everyone Keeps Talking About Kindergarten Wars

I’ve seen people compare this manga to Spy x Family, John Wick, Sakamoto Days, and honestly… none of those comparisons fully explain what makes it special.

The setting alone deserves points for originality.

A secret kindergarten exists exclusively for the children of presidents, billionaires, politicians, and other global VIPs. Naturally, countless assassins want those children dead.

The solution?

Hire former killers as teachers.

Yes, really.

Instead of serving long prison sentences, dangerous criminals become bodyguards disguised as kindergarten staff. If they successfully protect the kids, their sentences get reduced.

It’s one of those ideas that sounds completely ridiculous until the first firefight starts.

Then you realize the author is fully committed to the insanity.

Rita Is Easily One of the Funniest Main Characters

Most action heroes have some tragic weakness.

Rita doesn’t.

She’s terrifying in combat and can eliminate professional assassins without breaking much of a sweat.

Her actual weakness?

Good-looking men.

Whenever an attractive enemy appears, she immediately stops thinking like an elite fighter and starts wondering whether he’d make a decent boyfriend.

Sometimes that distraction creates hilarious misunderstandings.

Other times she’s flirting while bullets are flying across the room.

It’s chaotic, incredibly stupid in the best possible way, and somehow never gets old.

I expected the joke to wear thin after a few chapters, but You Chiba constantly finds fresh ways to make Rita’s personality clash with deadly situations.

Is Kindergarten Wars Entering Its Final Story?

The biggest topic among manga readers lately is the series’ current direction.

The manga has moved into its America Arc, which raises the stakes considerably as Rita and the rest of the cast face the mysterious New World Order organization.

The fights have become larger, the enemies stronger, and it definitely feels like the story is building toward its biggest showdown.

While there hasn’t been an exact ending date announced, the current arc has all the signs of a final stretch rather than another stepping stone before dozens of additional storylines.

Personally, I hope the author doesn’t drag things out. Manga that know exactly when to stop usually leave a much stronger impression than series that continue simply because they’re popular.

Anime Adaptation Is Finally Happening

The excitement around Kindergarten Wars isn’t limited to manga anymore.

An anime adaptation has officially been announced, with Sunrise and Felix Film attached to the project.

The series is currently scheduled to premiere in Q2 2027, and that’s probably the moment when this franchise explodes even further.

One thing I’m especially curious about is how the anime handles Rita’s comedy.

The manga relies heavily on expressive reaction faces and perfect comedic timing. If the adaptation nails those moments while keeping the action fluid, I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes one of the breakout anime hits of 2027.

Should You Start Reading Now?

Absolutely.

One thing I appreciate about Kindergarten Wars is that it never pretends to be something it isn’t. It knows its premise is ridiculous, embraces every absurd moment, and somehow balances comedy with genuinely exciting action scenes.

If you’re waiting for dozens more English volumes before jumping in, that’s understandable. But if reading digitally doesn’t bother you, there’s really no reason to hold off.

The current release pace makes it easy to stay caught up, and avoiding spoilers is becoming harder as the fandom continues to grow.

Whether you’re here for explosive action, bizarre comedy, or simply one of the strangest concepts in modern manga, Kindergarten Wars delivers far more than its premise suggests. It’s unpredictable, loud, funny, and surprisingly addictive—exactly the kind of series I end up recommending to friends with the warning, ‘Just read three chapters before judging it.’
