With the second cour scheduled to return on October 11, 2026, the anime is introducing five legendary Gold Rank Spies, and the voice cast is packed with names that should make longtime anime fans stop scrolling.
The newly announced lineup includes Hochu Otsuka as Alexandryu, Miku Ito as Shura, Yumiri Hanamori as Cyber Demon Lord Giga, Sumire Uesaka as Dr. Mozu, and Naomi Shindo as Hulang. That is a ridiculous amount of voice-acting experience for five characters who are about to make Taiyo’s already complicated life even more chaotic. The official character material also gives us a better look at Kosmos Akizakura and the strange collection of personalities waiting to collide with the Yozakura family.
And honestly, this is exactly the kind of casting announcement that makes me more interested in Cour 2 than I was before. Mission: Yozakura Family works best when its comedy, family drama, ridiculous spy abilities, and genuinely dangerous situations are all happening at once, and these Gold Rank characters look like they were designed to push every one of those elements even further.
Mission: Yozakura Family Season 2 Cour 2 Release Date
The first season of Mission: Yozakura Family aired from April through October 2024, establishing the bizarre but surprisingly heartfelt relationship between Taiyo Asano and Mutsumi Yozakura. Season 2 continued that story with its first cour beginning on April 12, 2026, running for 12 episodes before wrapping up on June 28.
The anime is returning for Season 2 Cour 2 on October 11, 2026, continuing from Episode 13 rather than treating the second cour like a completely separate season. I actually prefer this approach for a series like Yozakura Family. There is already a huge cast, a mountain of family history, and an increasingly complicated spy world to keep track of, so breaking the story into completely disconnected seasons would probably make the whole thing feel more fragmented.
SILVER LINK. remains in charge of the animation, with Mirai Minato continuing his involvement as chief director and series composition writer alongside director Takahiro Nakatsugawa. Mizuki Takahashi returns for character designs, while Koji Fujimoto handles the music. The combination of fast action, exaggerated comedy, and spy-thriller atmosphere is one of the anime’s biggest strengths, so I am hoping Cour 2 keeps that balance instead of becoming too serious for too long.
Why the Gold Rank Spies Matter
For anyone who has only recently started watching the anime, Mission: Yozakura Family follows Taiyo Asano, a withdrawn high school student whose life changes completely after getting pulled into the world of his childhood friend Mutsumi Yozakura.
Mutsumi is not exactly your average classmate. She is the head of the Yozakura family, a legendary spy dynasty whose members possess extraordinary abilities connected to the family’s unique biology. Naturally, being close to Mutsumi means Taiyo becomes a target, especially when her extremely possessive older brother Kyoichiro Yozakura decides that Taiyo is a threat.
The solution is as insane as you would expect from this manga: Taiyo marries Mutsumi and officially becomes part of the Yozakura family. Since members of the family are forbidden from killing one another, the marriage gives Taiyo a bizarre form of protection while simultaneously throwing him into a world of assassins, espionage, gadgets, conspiracies, and people who are wildly more dangerous than he is.
The Gold Rank Spies expand that world considerably. Instead of Taiyo constantly measuring himself against the Yozakura siblings, he now has to deal with elite operatives whose skills and philosophies exist outside the family.
That is where things could get really interesting.
Alexandryu — Voiced by Hochu Otsuka
Alexandryu immediately stands out because of his position as the editor-in-chief of Spy Day, an underground publication dealing with the secret world of espionage. He is not simply another fighter who can punch harder than everyone else. His power comes from information, influence, experience, and knowing things that other spies desperately want to keep hidden.
And then you look at the casting and see Hochu Otsuka.
Anime fans will recognize Otsuka from countless major roles, including Jiraiya in Naruto. His voice has that wonderfully weathered quality that can make a character sound like they have already survived three wars before the conversation even begins.
For Alexandryu, that is pretty much perfect.
I am especially curious about how much SILVER LINK. lets the character lean into that intimidating veteran presence. A spy who controls information can be much more frightening than someone waving around a giant weapon, and Otsuka has exactly the kind of voice that can sell that idea.
Shura — Voiced by Miku Ito
Shura represents a completely different side of the Gold Rank world. She is the CEO of a major weapons manufacturer, putting her in a position where the tools used by spies around the world can literally pass through her hands.
The casting choice here is Miku Ito, who many fans know as Miku Nakano from The Quintessential Quintuplets and Kokoro Tsurumaki from BanG Dream!. Those roles give Ito plenty of room to show her range, but Shura requires something considerably more calculating.
That contrast is what makes the casting fun.
There is something entertaining about hearing a familiar voice associated with more cheerful characters suddenly become the voice of someone who can casually discuss weapons technology and corporate power. Shura does not need to be the loudest person in the room to feel dangerous, and Ito’s performance could make that restraint especially effective.
Cyber Demon Lord Giga — Voiced by Yumiri Hanamori
The name alone tells you that Cyber Demon Lord Giga is not going to be normal.
Giga is a legendary hacker operating deep inside the digital side of the spy world. Her specialty is information warfare, and her abilities allow her to attack systems that ordinary spies would never even be able to access.
This role goes to Yumiri Hanamori, another voice actress with an absurdly broad range. Anime fans know her as Ai Hayasaka from Kaguya-sama: Love Is War and Nadeshiko Kagamihara from Laid-Back Camp, among many other roles.
That is a particularly fun combination for Giga because Hanamori can move between calm, controlled delivery and much stranger comedic energy. And if you have read enough Mission: Yozakura Family, you already know that this series loves characters who can switch from completely ridiculous to genuinely intimidating within the same scene.
Giga feels like exactly that kind of character.
Dr. Mozu — Voiced by Sumire Uesaka
Then we get Dr. Mozu, who might be the character I am most curious to hear.
Mozu is a scientist specializing in biological research, chemistry, genetic manipulation, and other areas that are probably best kept away from anyone who describes themselves as “curious.” Her approach to science is anything but conventional, and that makes her a natural fit for the increasingly strange side of Mission: Yozakura Family.
The role is being performed by Sumire Uesaka, whose resume includes Sanae Dekomori from Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, Nagatoro from Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro, and Lum in the modern Urusei Yatsura anime.
That casting is honestly inspired.
Uesaka is extremely good at characters who are funny and eccentric without losing the ability to sound genuinely threatening when the scene demands it. Dr. Mozu needs exactly that balance, because a character can be hilarious one minute and deeply unsettling the next when her idea of normal science involves things most people would run away from.
Hulang — Voiced by Naomi Shindo
Hulang rounds out the new group, and her fighting style gives her a very different identity from the others.
She is a former teacher who approaches combat with discipline and precision. Instead of simply overpowering an opponent, she analyzes them, identifies their weaknesses, and treats the battle almost like an examination. That teacher mentality makes her particularly memorable because even getting attacked by her can apparently feel like failing a class.
Naomi Shindo provides the voice, bringing another veteran performer into the cast. She is known for roles including Cagalli Yula Athha in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Shizuru Fujino in Mai-HiME.
For Hulang, that experience with strong, commanding characters should work extremely well. I can already imagine her delivering some completely absurd battle commentary in the calm voice of someone correcting a student’s homework.

What makes the group work for me is that their specialties are completely different. Information, weapons, hacking, science, and combat cover a huge chunk of the modern spy fantasy, and the characters themselves appear eccentric enough that they should fit naturally into Yozakura Family’s particular brand of chaos.
Why Cour 2 Could Feel Different
One thing I am particularly interested in is what these characters mean for Taiyo.
Until now, his development has largely been tied to the Yozakura household. He has had to learn how to survive around people who are simultaneously his new family and some of the most dangerous spies alive. That is already a ridiculous training environment, but Gold Rank Spies introduce something new.
These people are not simply stronger versions of the Yozakura siblings. They represent different philosophies of espionage.
That matters because Taiyo’s growth has never been only about becoming physically stronger. He has had to become more confident, understand the bizarre rules of the spy world, and figure out how to protect the people he cares about without losing himself in the process.
Putting him in front of independent Gold Rank legends should test all of that.
And from a fan perspective, I really want to see how the comedy handles it. Mission: Yozakura Family can go from heartfelt family scene to completely ridiculous assassination attempt with almost no warning. Introducing five characters this eccentric gives the anime even more opportunities to embrace that identity.
My Take on the New Cast
The easiest mistake would be looking at this announcement and thinking it is just a list of famous voice actors. The more interesting part is how well their voices match the personalities of the characters.
Hochu Otsuka brings veteran authority to Alexandryu. Miku Ito gives Shura the opportunity to explore a colder and more commanding side. Yumiri Hanamori is a natural choice for an unpredictable hacker like Giga, while Sumire Uesaka seems almost tailor-made for Dr. Mozu’s combination of comedy and menace. Naomi Shindo, meanwhile, has the kind of commanding presence Hulang needs.
That variety is exactly what I want from the second cour.
Mission: Yozakura Family has always had a weird charm because it refuses to stay in one lane. It can be a romantic comedy, a family story, an action series, and a spy thriller within the same handful of episodes. Cour 2 looks ready to push that formula even harder, especially now that the wider spy world is starting to feel just as important as the Yozakura household.
October 11 cannot come quickly enough. I am especially curious to see whether these five Gold Rank Spies live up to the enormous reputation surrounding them once they actually start moving and talking on screen. With this voice cast, at least one thing already seems certain: the Gold Rank crew is going to be very, very loud in the best possible way.
Mission: Yozakura Family Season 2 Cour 2 has a lot of story to cover, but if the anime can maintain the first cour’s combination of ridiculous comedy, slick action, family drama, and genuine character development, these new Gold Rank Spies could become exactly the shake-up the series needs.
Mission: Yozakura Family fans have spent plenty of time watching Taiyo get dragged deeper into the spy world. Now the spy world is finally coming to him.
