If there is one thing Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- has consistently done better than almost any modern isekai, it’s creating villains that feel genuinely disturbing rather than simply powerful. Every Sin Archbishop represents a different kind of madness, but after reading through Arc 6, I honestly think Louis Arneb stands in a league of her own.
At first glance she doesn’t even look threatening. She’s small, quiet, and physically fragile compared to monsters like Petelgeuse or Regulus. But that’s exactly why she left such a huge impression on me. Instead of overwhelming Subaru with brute force, Louis attacks something far more important—his identity, his memories, and ultimately the very reason he keeps moving forward.
With Re:ZERO Season 4 Part 2 adapting one of the darkest sections of the light novel, anime-only viewers are about to meet a character who completely changes the way we think about Gluttony.
Gluttony Was Never Just One Person
For years the anime focused on Lye Batenkaitos and later Roy Alphard, making it seem as though the Sin of Gluttony simply belonged to whoever happened to be stealing names and memories.
Then Arc 6 reveals something much bigger.

Unlike her brothers, she isn’t roaming the world attacking people.
She exists inside the mysterious Corridor of Memories, trapped between souls and reality.
Imagine spending your entire existence watching other people live incredible lives while never being able to touch the real world yourself.
She can feel happiness…
She can read memories…
She can witness love…
But none of those experiences actually belong to her.
That’s an incredibly tragic premise.
Of course, tragedy doesn’t excuse what she becomes.
Instead, it twists her into someone obsessed with stealing other people’s existence because it’s the only way she can experience anything at all.
Personally, that’s what makes her scarier than many previous villains.
She’s driven by envy rather than hatred.
The Authority of Gluttony Is Still One of Re:ZERO’s Best Power Systems
One thing I appreciate about Re:ZERO is that its abilities usually have emotional consequences instead of just flashy combat effects.
Louis and the other Gluttony Archbishops don’t simply kill people.
They erase them.
Some of their most frightening abilities include:
- Eating Names, causing everyone to forget a person’s existence.
- Eating Memories, leaving victims alive but stripped of their identity.
- Taking both, placing victims into an endless sleeping state.
- Borrowing abilities from those they’ve consumed through Eclipse techniques.
The terrifying part isn’t losing a fight.
It’s losing yourself.
That idea alone creates far more tension than another overpowered magic attack ever could.
Subaru Finally Meets Someone Who Wants His Secret
Every Re:ZERO fan knows Subaru carries the world’s most painful ability: Return by Death.
Almost nobody can learn about it.
Louis changes that.
When she encounters Subaru inside the Corridor of Memories, she sees him as the ultimate prize.
At first she simply wants another collection.
Then she begins reading his memories.
Everything changes.
Instead of finding the perfect life she imagined, Louis discovers endless loops filled with suffering.
- Murder.
- Hopelessness.
- Isolation.
- Watching friends die.
- Dying himself again and again.
This moment might become one of my favorite scenes if White Fox adapts it well, because it completely flips the predator-prey relationship.
The Scene I’m Most Excited to Watch
Without exaggeration, the psychological confrontation between Subaru and Louis is one of Arc 6’s biggest highlights.
Louis believes she has found the perfect existence to steal.
Instead, she experiences every horrific death Subaru has endured.
Imagine feeling years of trauma in only a few moments.
- No preparation.
- No emotional distance.
- No ability to stop.
For someone who spent her life chasing happiness, Subaru’s memories become an unbearable nightmare.
That’s what I love about this confrontation.
Subaru doesn’t defeat her through overwhelming strength.
His own suffering becomes the weapon.
Very few anime manage to turn emotional trauma into an actual battlefield, but Re:ZERO somehow pulls it off.
Why Louis Feels Different From Other Archbishops
Looking back at previous antagonists, each one represents obsession taken to an extreme.
- Petelgeuse embodied blind devotion.
- Regulus represented selfish entitlement.
- Lye treated lives like gourmet cuisine.
- Louis desperately wants a life she never had.
That last motivation feels surprisingly human.
It’s easy to understand.
Impossible to justify.
And that’s exactly why she becomes memorable.
Rather than creating another unstoppable monster, the story gives us someone emotionally broken long before the battle even begins.

If the adaptation keeps the emotional intensity of the novels, I think anime-only viewers are in for something special.
The Corridor of Memories isn’t just another fantasy location.
It feels detached from reality, almost dreamlike, making every conversation between Subaru and Louis even more unsettling.
The success of these episodes will probably depend less on flashy animation and more on atmosphere.

Those elements matter far more than giant explosions here.

Louis Arneb isn’t my favorite Re:ZERO villain because she’s the strongest.
She’s my favorite because she’s the most psychologically unsettling.

By the time she collides with Subaru, the story transforms into something much deeper than a battle between hero and villain. It’s a clash between two people who understand suffering in completely different ways.
If White Fox captures even half of the emotional weight from the novels, Re:ZERO Season 4 Part 2 could easily deliver some of the franchise’s most unforgettable episodes. For longtime fans, Louis Arneb isn’t simply another Sin Archbishop—she’s the kind of antagonist who stays in your mind long after the credits roll, reminding us that the most frightening monsters aren’t always the loudest ones.
