And somehow, it works.

And honestly, that’s probably the right approach.

Chainsmoker Cat works best when the pacing stays aggressive.

The moment you give Yani too much time to sit around doing nothing, the whole thing risks losing its momentum.

What About the Censored and Uncensored Versions?

This has also generated plenty of discussion among anime fans.

Because Chainsmoker Cat leans heavily into crude adult comedy and intentionally gross visual jokes, viewers may encounter different versions depending on where they watch.

The Japanese television broadcasts can use edited or obscured imagery to meet broadcast standards. The AT-X version and international streaming presentation offer a less restricted experience.

That can make screenshots and clips circulating online look surprisingly different.

The contrast is part of the appeal.

You have a beautifully animated character doing something completely ridiculous. The opening sequence especially embraces that contrast, combining energetic visuals, movie references, and the song “Nanmonee” by Wasureranneyo.

I’d rather see the studio protect that level of production than rush into a longer season simply because the anime suddenly became popular.

The Anime Community Seems Completely Divided

One of the funniest things about Chainsmoker Cat’s reception is how difficult it is to find a middle ground.

People seem to either love the absurdity or absolutely cannot stand it.

And I get both sides.

The humor is not subtle. Yani’s lifestyle is intentionally gross, her decisions are often terrible, and the show repeatedly pushes situations further than a conventional comedy would dare.

But that’s also why the anime stands out.

There are dozens of polished seasonal shows every year that blur together after a few months. Chainsmoker Cat doesn’t have that problem. Even if you hate it, you’re probably going to remember it.

The animation helps enormously.

The character designs and direction give the series a much more refined visual identity than its premise would suggest. That creates a strange but effective combination: high-quality animation wrapped around deliberately low-life comedy.

The production schedule, source material, streaming performance, and merchandise sales would all play a role in determining whether Bibury Animation Studios returns for another season.

For now, the safest assumption is that Season 1 is designed to tell a compact story across 12 episodes.

And that’s perfectly fine with me.

I’d rather finish a season wanting five more episodes than reach Episode 18 and realize the joke stopped being funny six weeks ago.

My Take: 12 Episodes Is Probably the Right Call

After following Chainsmoker Cat through its first stretch of episodes, I’m convinced that 12 episodes is exactly the kind of season this anime needs.

It’s weird enough to be memorable, crude enough to annoy people, and visually polished enough to keep anime fans talking about it after the initial shock wears off.

The weekly format also works surprisingly well. Watching Yani create another completely avoidable disaster every Thursday gives the series a kind of routine. You know things are going to go wrong. You just don’t know how spectacularly they’re going to go wrong this time.

If the current schedule holds, Chainsmoker Cat Season 1 should end on September 17, 2026, with Episode 12 serving as the season finale.

There is no need to overcomplicate it.

For now, we’re looking at a 12-episode first season, a weekly release schedule, and a September conclusion.

And if you’re already emotionally invested in watching Yani continue making catastrophically bad life choices, enjoy it while it lasts.

Because something tells me the internet isn’t going to stop talking about this catgirl disaster anytime soon.
