There are manga chapters that move a story forward, and then there are chapters that make you question whether you understood the story at all.
Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi Chapter 107 absolutely belongs in the second category.
Shoichi Usui has been playing with horror, absurd comedy, and supernatural mystery throughout the Exorcist Academy storyline, but Chapter 107 might be the cleanest example yet of how well those ingredients can work together. What begins as a fairly familiar investigation into an attack on the Chairman eventually turns into something much stranger: a creepy hallway monster isn’t actually the villain, Professor Tsuge may have been framed, and the supposedly missing student Inori Iefuda is suddenly connected to a murder.
And yes, the dead person is the one telling us about it.
That final reveal completely changes how I’m looking at the entire mystery.
When Chapter 107 Starts Looking Like a Typical Kiyoshi Mystery
The chapter initially follows the investigation into the Chairman’s attack. The students finally have something resembling a concrete lead after a tiny Shih Tzu named Jamper becomes the unlikely eyewitness.
This is where Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi does what it does best.
Instead of giving us a dramatic detective interrogation, we get a ridiculous supernatural canine translation sequence involving Professor Yagi and his enormous spiritual bulldog. It is funny, weird, and somehow still important.
The conclusion is anything but funny, though.
According to the dog’s interpretation, Professor Tsuge was seen outside the Chairman’s window during the attack.
Naturally, everyone assumes Tsuge is guilty.
The students storm toward his office, only to discover that the room is locked. Once Akari uses her Hair-miliar to open it, the situation gets considerably worse. A bloody serrated spiritual blade is discovered near a boiling cauldron.
At that point, Tsuge looks less like a suspect and more like someone who has been caught in the middle of something horrible.
There is also a personal reason for the students to take the case so seriously. Kitano reveals that the injured Chairman is his grandfather, turning the investigation into a much more emotional affair.
But Kiyoshi isn’t buying the obvious answer.
And honestly, this is probably the smartest thing he could have done.
Kiyoshi Notices the Detail Everyone Else Misses
While the other students begin searching for Tsuge, Kiyoshi stays behind and watches the scene.
That small decision matters.
He starts connecting the attack with two separate pieces of information: the Exorcist Academy’s Seven Wonders and the disappearance of Inori Iefuda.
Instead of chasing the loudest clue, Kiyoshi follows the weird one.
That leads him into the academy’s dark corridors after midnight.
This is where Chapter 107 suddenly changes genre.
A poster falls in front of Kiyoshi.
For a moment, it looks completely harmless.
It isn’t.
Behind him appears an enormous, grotesque spirit with bulging eyes and a huge mouth. The creature starts chanting its strange curse, and Kiyoshi basically short-circuits from terror.
The scene is genuinely creepy until Akari arrives.
Then it becomes classic Kiyoshi chaos.
Akari’s Hair-Miliar Runs Into a Problem
Akari immediately attacks the monster with Hair-miliar: Acrobat, expecting her technique to work.
It doesn’t.
Her spiritual hair passes straight through the creature.
That isn’t just a joke. Chapter 107 uses this moment to establish an important distinction in the supernatural rules of the series.
Exorcists can’t simply attack every supernatural entity with the same techniques.
Akari realizes that Hair-miliar is an XR-CISM technique designed for living targets or demons. The thing standing in front of her isn’t either.
It’s a human ghost.
And that’s when the chapter pulls its best trick.
The giant horror suddenly starts peeling away like a costume.
Behind the monster is a cheerful schoolboy wearing a traditional Japanese uniform and an exorcist cap. Instead of attacking Kiyoshi and Akari, he casually introduces himself as a ghost who lives in the hallway.
I genuinely loved this reveal.
The creepy creature wasn’t some ancient demon waiting to slaughter students. He was basically a lonely kid playing a prank because someone finally walked through his hallway.
That makes the next line hit much harder.
The Final Line of Chapter 107 Changes the Entire Mystery
Kiyoshi and Akari are still trying to process what happened when the ghost corrects their assumptions.
The supposed Phantom isn’t responsible for kidnapping Inori Iefuda.
The ghost then delivers the line that completely flips the investigation:
“Iefuda is the one… who killed me.”
And that’s the cliffhanger.
Not Tsuge.
Not the Phantom.
Not some unknown demon hiding beneath the academy.
Inori Iefuda.
Suddenly, the missing student isn’t simply a victim at the center of the mystery. She may be one of its most important perpetrators.
That’s a huge shift for the story.
My Biggest Chapter 108 Prediction: Tsuge Is Not the Villain
If Chapter 107 is telling us anything, it’s that Professor Tsuge probably isn’t the person we should be worried about.
The evidence against him is almost suspiciously convenient.
He was supposedly seen near the Chairman’s room. His office contains a bloody weapon. Then he disappears.
That sounds like a confession without the actual confession.
But Kiyoshi’s behavior strongly suggests that we’re supposed to question the setup.
My guess is that Tsuge discovered something about Iefuda and became involved in the investigation before the other teachers understood what was happening. The bloody blade could potentially be evidence rather than a murder weapon belonging to Tsuge.
If that’s true, Tsuge may have been trying to stop the situation rather than cause it.
The Ghost Boy Could Finally Explain What Happened to Iefuda
The obvious next step for Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi Chapter 108 is a conversation with the ghost.
And I really hope Usui doesn’t rush through it.
This character has apparently been trapped in the academy for long enough to know things that the living students don’t. He could explain:
- How he died
- Why Iefuda killed him
- What happened after his death
- How the Seven Wonders are connected
- Why Iefuda disappeared
- Whether the Chairman was attacked for the same reason
The most interesting possibility is that the ghost knows something about the academy that even the teachers have forgotten.
After all, a dead student who literally lives inside one of the school’s mysterious locations is a pretty perfect witness.
Could Iefuda Be a Human Enemy?
This is the theory I’m watching most closely.
So far, Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi has given us plenty of supernatural enemies, demons, and increasingly dangerous spiritual threats. But Iefuda being an ordinary human who deliberately killed another student would create a completely different kind of conflict.
She wouldn’t need to overpower Kiyoshi physically.
She could manipulate people.
She could hide evidence.
She could use the academy’s supernatural rules against the students.
And if she has some connection to the Seven Wonders, things could get much darker.
There is also the possibility that Iefuda isn’t acting entirely on her own. A curse, forbidden ritual, possession, or some kind of spiritual contract could explain why a student would become involved in something this dangerous.
That would also connect the human mystery back to the supernatural side of the manga without making the reveal feel random.
What About the Chairman?
The Chairman’s attack is still the biggest unanswered question.
If Iefuda really is connected to the ghost’s death, there’s a good chance the attack wasn’t random either.
My current theory is that the Chairman knows something.
Maybe he possesses information about the academy’s Seven Wonders. Maybe there’s a forbidden object hidden somewhere on campus. Or perhaps the Chairman was connected to the circumstances surrounding the ghost’s death.
The fact that the attack happened shortly before all these revelations feels way too deliberate.
And that’s why I don’t think Chapter 108 will simply be a ghost-story flashback.
There are too many pieces moving at once.

Final Thoughts: This Is Exactly the Kind of Cliffhanger Kiyoshi Needed
What I like most about Chapter 107 is that the twist doesn’t simply introduce a stronger monster.
It changes the meaning of what we’ve already seen.
The Phantom wasn’t the killer.
The exorcist techniques weren’t enough.
Tsuge’s suspicious behavior might have been misunderstood.
And the missing student everyone was searching for could actually be responsible for the death at the center of the mystery.
That’s much more interesting than another supernatural fight.
I’m especially curious about the ghost himself. He starts the chapter looking like a nightmare creature and ends it as one of the most unexpectedly sympathetic characters in the arc. He’s been dead, stuck in a hallway, and apparently waiting for someone to visit him.
Then he casually drops the biggest piece of evidence in the entire investigation.
Classic Kiyoshi.
Chapter 108 has a lot to answer, but the biggest question is now painfully simple: why did Inori Iefuda kill him?
If that answer is connected to the Seven Wonders, the Chairman, and Professor Tsuge, then this academy arc is about to become much bigger than anyone expected.
