Mayori Academy Chapter 5 Release Date, Chapter 4 Full Breakdown, and Fan Analysis

Mayori Academy has only been running for a few weeks, and somehow it already feels like one of those manga you need to talk about immediately after reading a new chapter.

Created by Tatsu Murakoshi, the Shonen Jump+ series started its serialization in August 2026 after winning the 2025 Jump+ Series Grand Prix. On paper, its premise sounds like another supernatural school story. In practice, though, Murakoshi is doing something much more interesting. The monsters aren’t simply enemies, the protagonist isn’t waiting around to be rescued, and the academy itself seems to be hiding a much larger system behind its walls.

Chapter 4, released on September 6, 2026, is where that potential really started to show.

And honestly? I think this was the chapter that finally made Mayori Academy click.

Mayori Academy Chapter 5 Release Date

If the series continues on its current weekly schedule, Mayori Academy Chapter 5 is scheduled for September 13, 2026.

For international readers, the chapter should become available through MANGA Plus, with the Japanese release effectively landing on Monday, September 14.

Chapter 4 Was Much Darker Than I Expected

The biggest surprise in Chapter 4 wasn’t Kirisaki’s transformation. We already knew that the Gokumon could produce frightening physical changes.

What caught me off guard was the explanation behind Kirisaki himself.

The chapter opens with an academy official investigating his background. She’s presented almost like someone who has spent far too many years sorting through unpleasant cases, sitting among shelves of records and quietly piecing together Kirisaki’s history.

And what she finds completely changes the way we should look at him.

Kirisaki wasn’t simply a violent kid.

He had lost both parents and was left responsible for his younger sisters. With nobody else stepping in, he apparently ended up working at a factory connected to his relatives. The investigation even raises the possibility that he wasn’t working there voluntarily.

That detail matters.

It turns Kirisaki from a convenient “dangerous monster” into another victim of the world surrounding the academy. His anger didn’t appear out of nowhere. There was grief, poverty, responsibility and exploitation sitting underneath it.

That’s a much uglier problem to solve than simply punching a monster.

Sagume Refuses to Wait for Answers

Authorities aren’t ready to finish their investigation, so Sagume decides she can’t just sit around and wait.

This is where Kisuke, the strange little bird-like spirit, becomes useful.

Sagume basically tries to manipulate Kisuke into helping with their investigation by appealing to his love of her phone and convincing him that playing with dolls might help social development.

It’s a surprisingly funny moment in an otherwise heavy chapter.

Kisuke’s reluctant personality also gives Sagume something the story desperately needs: a character who can react to the absurdity of everything happening around her.

But that relationship takes a sharp turn once Kirisaki loses control.

Kirisaki’s Transformation Is Pure Body Horror

Kirisaki suddenly transforms into an enormous beast covered in fur and scales.

The disturbing part isn’t simply how big he becomes. It’s how painful the transformation looks.

His body bends and shifts violently, his skeletal structure changing under the pressure of the transformation. This isn’t presented as a cool power-up. It looks like his body is being forced into a shape it was never meant to hold.

That distinction is important.

Sagume has spent years learning how to live with her own oni characteristics. Kirisaki clearly hasn’t had that opportunity.

He isn’t controlling the monster.

The monster is consuming him.

Sagume Finally Faces Her Biggest Weakness

This is probably my favorite part of Chapter 4.

Sagume admits something incredibly simple:

“I always lose my nerve.”

That line explains so much about her.

For several chapters, she could easily have been mistaken for a protagonist who was simply withdrawn or socially isolated. But Chapter 4 reveals that her biggest problem isn’t a lack of ability.

It’s fear.

She knows what she can do. She has trained her body. She understands her oni abilities. What she doesn’t trust is herself when everything suddenly goes wrong.

And Kirisaki gives her exactly that situation.

When his transformation becomes uncontrollable, Sagume makes an unusual decision. She removes Kisuke from herself and sends him away.

Kisuke immediately panics.

Sagume knows he’ll try to stop her, and this time she doesn’t want anyone talking her out of what she’s about to do.

She decides to face Kirisaki alone.

“I’ve Just Gotta Do It”

Once Sagume stops hesitating, the entire mood changes.

Her horns appear. Her demonic power comes forward. She stops trying to suppress the part of herself that she’s spent so long being afraid of.

Then comes one of the chapter’s most memorable moments.

Sagume essentially decides that if she has to save Kirisaki, she’ll kick the monster’s ass first.

And she does.

She dodges his attack, flips through the air and lands a devastating kick before following it with another heavy strike.

It’s a fantastic action sequence, but Murakoshi doesn’t let the fight become the answer.

That’s the clever part.

Sagume can knock Kirisaki down.

She can’t punch the suffering out of him.

The Real Solution Is Not Violence

After temporarily overpowering Kirisaki, Sagume asks him a much more painful question: if he kills someone, can he really return to the life he had before?

Kirisaki’s humanity is still somewhere inside the creature.

He hears her.

He fights back.

Sagume gets thrown into a tree and is visibly injured, but she refuses to leave.

Even Kisuke tells her to forget the academy and stop putting herself in danger.

She won’t.

By this point, Sagume isn’t simply trying to complete some school assignment. She has decided that Kirisaki is someone worth saving.

And that’s when the chapter takes its biggest swing.

The Hug That Changed Everything

Instead of attacking again, Sagume runs toward Kirisaki and embraces him.

A hug.

After all that violence, Murakoshi resolves the scene with the least conventional weapon possible.

And somehow, it works.

Kirisaki freezes.

His rage begins to disappear. His expression changes. Tears run down his face, and for a brief moment, the human being underneath the transformation comes back.

Then he apologizes.

“Sorry, Sagume…!!”

That moment completely reframes the entire chapter.

Kirisaki wasn’t waiting for someone strong enough to defeat him.

He needed someone willing to reach him.

Sagume later explains that Kirisaki doesn’t become completely uncontrollable when she’s talking to him. Somehow, her presence gives the remaining part of his reasoning a chance to surface.

That is a fascinating ability, and I really hope Chapter 5 explores it instead of immediately moving on.

What Chapter 5 Could Focus On

The final pages leave us with several obvious questions.

1. Who Is the Sergeant?

The mention of the incoming sergeant immediately got my attention.

If academy personnel are already prepared to respond to Gokumon incidents, then Mayori Academy clearly has a much more organized system than we’ve seen so far.

The sergeant could be a major authority figure, a combat specialist, or even someone who strongly disagrees with Sagume’s approach.

Personally, I hope it’s the last option.

It would be much more interesting if Sagume’s decision to save Kirisaki creates a conflict with the academy rather than earning her instant praise.

2. What Happens to Kirisaki?

Kirisaki remembering Sagume and apologizing is a huge clue.

He isn’t completely gone.

But that doesn’t mean he’ll suddenly become comfortable around everyone. If anything, I expect the opposite.

He may wake up terrified of losing control again and decide that staying away from other students is the safest option.

That would give Sagume another problem to solve: not defeating Kirisaki, but convincing him that he still deserves a normal life.

3. Will We Meet His Sisters?

The information about Kirisaki’s younger sisters feels too important to be background trivia.

If his family is the reason he pushed himself into dangerous work in the first place, then they could become the emotional key to his recovery.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sagume eventually tries to meet them herself.

It would also let the manga show what Kirisaki was like before everything went wrong.

Why Chapter 4 Makes Mayori Academy Stand Out

There are plenty of supernatural battle manga where a character loses control and becomes a monster.

The difference here is what Murakoshi does with that idea.

In many action series, the monster represents something that must be destroyed. Mayori Academy seems much more interested in asking why the person became a monster in the first place.

Kirisaki’s transformation is connected to suffering.

Sagume’s strength is connected to fear.

And the academy itself appears to be connected to a larger system that may not be nearly as compassionate as Sagume.

That combination gives the manga a surprisingly emotional identity this early in its run.

The fight was great. The body horror was memorable. But the hug is the scene I’m still thinking about.

Because Sagume didn’t win by proving she was stronger.

She won because she refused to treat Kirisaki like something that needed to be eliminated.

Mayori Academy Chapter Progress So Far

The first four chapters have moved surprisingly quickly. There hasn’t been much wasted space, and Chapter 4 feels like the point where the initial setup finally pays off.

Now I’m much more curious about Mayori Academy itself.

We’ve seen the victims. We’ve seen the prejudice. We’ve seen what happens when someone loses control.

Next, I want to see the people who are supposed to be responsible for handling all of this.

If Chapter 5 introduces the sergeant and starts expanding the academy’s hierarchy, Mayori Academy could move from an interesting supernatural manga into something considerably bigger.

For now, though, the question isn’t whether Sagume can beat Kirisaki.

She already proved she can.

The real question is whether she can actually save him.

And that’s a much more interesting story.
