Charisma Anime Release Date, New Key Visual, Staff, and Project Breakdown

I’m going to be honest: Charisma is one of those anime projects that sounds completely ridiculous when you explain it to someone who has never heard of it. Seven attractive men live together in one house, and each one represents an exaggerated form of “charisma.” One worships himself, another is obsessed with obedience, another rebels against basically everything, and someone else has apparently made being sexy his entire personality. Somehow, that concept has grown into a huge multimedia franchise, and now Chojinteki Share House Story Charisma is finally getting a TV anime.

The big announcement arrived during the franchise’s fifth-anniversary celebrations, and it came with exactly the kind of material fans were hoping for: a new key visual, an official anime website, confirmed staff, the returning voice cast, and a January 2027 premiere window. For longtime Charisma fans, this is a pretty massive moment. The project has already existed through web dramas, character songs, manga, stage productions, and other media, but an actual television anime gives the chaotic residents of Charisma House a completely different level of exposure.

Charisma Was Never a Normal Anime Concept

The reason I find Charisma so interesting is that it never really tried to behave like a conventional idol franchise. The project was launched on August 7, 2021, through a collaboration between Shu Matsubara and Dazed CO., LTD., with King Records and EVIL LINE RECORDS playing a major role in its development. Instead of simply creating seven handsome characters and giving them predictable personalities, the creators pushed each personality trait to an almost absurd extreme.

That is basically the entire joke, but it is also what makes the franchise work. The seven residents are not simply supposed to be “cool guys” with different personalities. Each character is a walking exaggeration of a particular kind of charisma, and putting all seven of them in the same house naturally creates an endless supply of bizarre situations. The comedy comes from watching completely incompatible personalities try to coexist.

Before the anime was announced, fans already had plenty of Charisma material to enjoy. The original project developed through voiced web dramas on YouTube, character songs, audio drama tracks, manga adaptations, and live stage productions. There are also two separate manga series, Charisma: Kyo mo Heiwa Desu and Charisma: Charisma na Karera wa Charisma House de Karizumai-chu. Three live stage plays have also helped turn the franchise into something much bigger than a simple web series.

Meet the Seven Residents of Charisma House

The new key visual is particularly important because it shows how these characters are being translated from their original designs into full television animation. Original character designer Ebimo’s sharp, fashionable style remains recognizable, while the anime gives the cast a more dynamic presence. And thankfully, the original voice actors are returning, which is exactly what I wanted to hear.

  • Fumiya Ito — voiced by Yuki Ono: The mysterious mastermind who brought the residents together. Without Fumiya, there probably wouldn’t even be a Charisma House to begin with.
  • Iori Motohashi — voiced by Katsumi Fukuhara: The “charisma of obedience,” whose extreme devotion to serving others is much stranger than the description initially suggests.
  • Terra — voiced by Genki Okawa: The “charisma of self-love.” Terra is spectacularly narcissistic and seems perfectly comfortable being his own biggest fan.
  • Rikai Kusanagi — voiced by Masahiro Yamanaka: The “charisma of order,” desperately attempting to maintain rules and sanity while living with six completely unpredictable people.
  • Kei Sarukawa — voiced by Kenta Hosoda: The “charisma of rebellion,” who treats authority and instructions like personal enemies.
  • Ohse Minato — voiced by Saku Hyuga: The “charisma of internal punishment,” a deeply insecure character whose extreme self-deprecation leads to some truly wild behavior.
  • Amahiko Tendo — voiced by Tomohisa Hashizume: The “charisma of sex,” who proudly calls himself the “World Sexy Ambassador.” Yes, that is really his thing.

Looking at that lineup, I already know what the anime’s biggest strength is going to be: character chemistry. With seven personalities this exaggerated, the show does not need an elaborate villain or complicated plot every week. Put these guys in a room, give them a problem, and wait for everything to fall apart. Honestly, that is probably the best possible format for Charisma.

Why Pierrot Films Has Me Paying Attention

The animation production is being handled by Pierrot Films, a production subsidiary connected to the legendary Studio Pierrot. That name alone is enough to make longtime anime fans look twice. Studio Pierrot has been behind massive franchises including Naruto, Bleach, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Black Clover, so Charisma is certainly not being treated like an insignificant side project.

Director Joji Furuta, also credited as Takeshi Furuta, is leading the anime. His previous work includes Bad Girl, The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of The Commandments, and Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold. I think his experience with energetic character-driven material could be particularly useful here because Charisma needs more than attractive character designs. The timing of the comedy has to land. If the animation pauses for half a second too long or exaggerates the wrong reaction, some of the absurdity could lose its punch.

Shu Matsubara Returning Is a Huge Deal

For me, one of the most reassuring announcements is that Shu Matsubara is handling the series composition and screenplays. He isn’t some outside writer trying to figure out what made the original project popular. Matsubara helped shape Charisma from the beginning, so having him directly involved should make the anime feel like a genuine continuation rather than a watered-down adaptation.

That matters because Charisma’s humor depends heavily on personality, dialogue, and the bizarre interactions between the residents. Matsubara’s background with Mr. Osomatsu also makes the choice feel particularly appropriate. If you’ve watched that series, you already know he understands surreal comedy, chaotic ensembles, sudden tonal shifts, and characters who can become completely ridiculous without losing their individual identities.

The Music Could Be the Anime’s Secret Weapon

Another reason I’m watching this adaptation closely is the music. EVIL LINE RECORDS is producing the series’ music, and anyone familiar with Charisma already knows that songs are not just decorative extras here. Character songs, audio performances, hip-hop influences, and musical releases have been part of the franchise’s identity from the beginning.

That gives the anime a chance to do something really fun. Instead of treating music as an occasional opening or ending theme, Charisma can potentially use songs as extensions of the characters themselves. With seven personalities this extreme, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the most memorable moments of the series end up being musical scenes rather than conventional comedy sequences.

What the January 2027 Anime Could Become

The basic story remains wonderfully simple. The seven men continue living together in Charisma House while attempting to develop their respective forms of charisma. Their personalities constantly collide, creating increasingly ridiculous situations as they try to coexist under one roof.

And honestly, I think keeping things simple is the right decision. Charisma does not need an unnecessarily complicated plot. The appeal is the cast. The appeal is the escalating nonsense. The appeal is watching a man whose entire identity revolves around rebellion argue with someone whose entire identity revolves around obedience while the narcissist in the corner admires himself in a mirror.

King Records has already demonstrated with Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- that a music-focused character franchise can successfully move into anime. Charisma feels like a natural next step, especially because its existing fanbase has already spent years interacting with these characters through multiple forms of media.

Why I’m Keeping Charisma on My Winter 2027 Watchlist

There are plenty of anime announced every season that look interesting for five minutes and then disappear into the release calendar. Charisma feels different because the franchise already has an identity. It knows what kind of comedy it wants, it has an established cast, the original voice actors are returning, and the person who helped create the project’s personality is writing the anime.

The January 2027 premiere is therefore more than just another adaptation announcement. It is the moment when a strange, music-heavy, character-driven multimedia experiment gets the chance to introduce itself to a much larger anime audience. Whether newcomers immediately understand the appeal is another question, but personally, I think the sheer absurdity is exactly why it could work.

If the production team gets the comedy timing right, lets the seven characters bounce off each other naturally, and gives the music the attention it deserves, Charisma could become one of Winter 2027’s biggest sleeper hits. At the very least, I’m absolutely curious to see what happens when these seven disasters finally have a full TV season to destroy their shared house.

So yes, I’m officially keeping an eye on Charisma anime. It has a bizarre premise, an experienced creative team, returning voice actors, a strong musical foundation, and five years of franchise history behind it. Sometimes the weirdest anime projects are the ones that end up being the most memorable, and Charisma has already proven that it is perfectly comfortable being weird.
